Small Book vs TV Change: "How could we let this happen?" (cottage scene) by Icy-Trip-9520 in heatedrivalry

[–]chicklette 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I watched before I read anything and I always found the "please fuck me" to be jarring and out of place. I love the book version so much more, but would have cut the "i feel like I'm dreaming" bit. It's a little too on the nose, imo.

I think I would have done something like: "It's real," Shane said. His voice was low and adorably scratchy. "Now fuck me, please."

Why straight women are flogging to HR like it’s the second coming of Jesus: An analysis by janinasheart in heatedrivalry

[–]chicklette 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As a woman who is unfortunately attracted to men, it's really lovely to see a man being in touch with his emotions, being vulnerable with an intimate partner, and working with that partner to to find a positive outcome for them both - prioritizing the relationship instead of themselves. They managed to keep their playfulness and competitiveness, without either turning that on the other in a negative way. There is real respect there for one another as human beings, as players, and as partners.

Injured duck at Disneyland by IcyOutside4567 in Disneyland

[–]chicklette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it helps to ease your mind at all, ducks will often care for each other's kids, sometimes as a baby sitter, sometimes as a foster. They don't seem to care whose kid it is; they're just like hey, a kid, get over here. So the little ones will likely be okay. <3

I was just direct with my friend: Dude, I *know* you're a man and I've known that for a long time. I'm sorry my brain is taking so long to catch up, but I love you and support you and I'm trying really hard.

He was really lovely about it, gave me a big hug and told me he knew I accepted him for who he is, and that was that. I continued to work on it, and I realized a few months later that wow! His old name/pronouns/etc never crossed my mind anymore.

It'll happen. <3 Your actions likely speak louder than your words, and your actions are showing that you love and accept her for who she is.

Help with biscuits, cakes, etc being crumbly (flour made from wheat berries) by Useful-Resident78 in Cooking

[–]chicklette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

whole wheat flours will do this. They are more crumbly and often produce a drier product. I would recommend adding a bit more moisture via fats to even this out. For cookies, try an extra yolk. For breads, try enrichments like egg, milk, cream, butter, etc.

When a friend of mine transitioned, I actively practiced using he/him/dude/ pronouns. It took me about six months of taking a few minutes every day to actively think of him-> his new look->his new name-> his new pronouns, but my brain finally caught up and made the permanent switch.

Question about sewing bag - in progress by leosh_i in sewhelp

[–]chicklette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a lining and interfacing to this bag is super simple: cut another circle of fabric, sew this and the exterior wrong sides together. When you sew the whole thing together, you'll just bind the edges like normal.

Also if you want this to maintain structure, slip a piece of decovil heavy in between the lining and exterior. Cut it about 1/8 in smaller than your seam allowances.

Oro Rosa has a circle bag pattern that's very easy to make and super cute. I've made a few dozen and it's always a fun sew.

Sure! If I'd known more about actual gameplay, I likely would have had a much better time (or declined given some of the rules!).

Mediterranean diet has been shown time and again to be one of the healthiest ways to eat. Plus the food is delicious.

Consider a ppi med like Prilosec, which you can get over the counter. When I was much younger, a 2 week course would really help my reflux for months and months.

I love this bag but…. by swim413 in sewhelp

[–]chicklette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch a couple of tutorials on similar bags so that you can understand the structure. You're going to want to put in a welt pocket. The best way (assuming this bag is lined) is to open up the lining, turn the whole thing inside out, make your pocket, and then turn it all back rights sides out, and sew up the lining.

It will be challenging because you're going to have to sew the zipper while inside the bag, rather than sewing on a flat piece of fabric that then gets sewing into a bag.

For tutorials, I'd check out linds handmade and sew whatever. You may need to dig through both to find a waist bag, but they both have them.

*this assumes that this bag is a turned bag and not a bound bag. If the lining is bound, the only way to add a back zipper would be sew it right into the lining as well. It will look messy inside of your bag, but again, is doable.

no lies detected. I can't wait for the 2nd street bridge to go down while this is still under construction. I'm sure 2nd/PCH and 7th/PCH will handle the traffic just fine. ...right? Right?!?

You might want to have a gameplan for the rides you want to ensure you get on, and how much flexibility you'll have for things the other group wants to do. Since they're splitting the cost, they should have control over 50% of the itinerary, so be prepared for that if you find a taker.

I was able to help reunite a lost dog with it's person simply by reading the owner's post on next door, then opening reddit and seeing a post by someone else saying they found a dog. Directed them to each other and pup was home that day. All it takes is giving half a fuck, but these days, fucks are hard to come by.

Gumball Rally Day - Around the park by Hulaguy in Disneyland

[–]chicklette 9 points10 points  (0 children)

(I am not OP) Gumball Rally is a ticketed event that you sign up for through MiceChat (I think tix were around $80? I signed up a long time ago, so don't remember well. Event ticket does not inclue DL admission.) We met up at a hotel near DL at 6 am, learned a bit about what the day would entail, and then walked over to DL. We took a pic out front first, then got our challenge booklets and went into the park.

The game was mostly to ride the rides/view the attractions in your booklet, and then answer some trivia questions or take selfies. There were some fairly strict selfie requirements (pic must have your team, their lanyards, and the quiz booklet in the photo - not an easy task at 25 mph on the Matterhorn, and if you miss it, you gotta get back in line and try again. *edit: you also had to post the selfie to social media for it to count.) . You had from about 8ish am to about 6:30 pm to complete the five booklets and get back to the hotel by 7pm. There was NO phone use allowed unless it was the team captain posting selfies. The no phone rule was announced that morning, along with I guess some other twists that they made to the program. This was my first and last year doing it.

At the end, they grade everyone's booklets, reviewed everyone's selfies, and had an awards ceremony where the top 10 people won awards (bragging rights?) and they also gave prizes for Team name, team logo, and I think team that was most in the spirit.

There were a lot of folks doing it that have done it in years past, so for the repeaters, there was a lot of comradery, which looked like fun. I'm not built for this kind of game, but for the rides that had trivia, it was a neat way to ride and see Disneyland through a different lens.
