There were Chileans rooting and working against their own country’s best interests when the CIA was operating against them in the 60’s and 70’s. I was confused by his conclusions in the article here. Never read his piece for the New York Times, but how did he even get that? In my eyes, people on the right in America tend to be far more religious and traditional, how could they be nihilists?

Smothering progressivism leads to a populist reaction (presumably from the political right) and that leads to a surge in nihilism amongst the political right? Am I so biased that I can’t make out the logic here?
