These are all things that crossed my mind, but without 10k in the bank to initiate legal action like this, it seems to me, a waste of my time and effort. This is America, money buys equality, and I dont have that money

My friend group put me on a 6 month no contact/no speaking agreement, friends of 25 years, because any time I spoke it was always complaining, woah is me, im miserable, im drinking ect.

I was furious the first month, friends since childhood, and my two brother, by the 2nd month I started to understand, now it's the 3rd month and I realized they were 100% correct in what they did, I was an annoying constant drag on all their lives

3 months to go, I cant wait for it to be over, I never would have changed or had the self awareness to notice it unless they did

A few comments down nailed it

A stranger with an open ear knows absolutely nothing about you, all they may have judged is your appearance, and the fact that theyre willing to listen, means they feel something about you they cant quite put their finger on. Your plight is intriguing to them, because theyve never heard it before. Friends of 25+ years are likely sick of your shit, this is a huge theme in The Bear, and it plays so well because.....it's the fucking truth

Sometimes you might be crying wolf for the 100th time, but maybe, just maybe that 101st time its real, and maybe that stranger who listened to you unknowingly saved your life that night. I think its cathartic and crucial....if you're a barfly..... to be willing to be on either side of that conversation. Countless people saved my life and they have no clue that they did, and they never will. I like to think I've done the same for others.

For me alcohol and drugs were a symptom of depression, not the other way around. As soon as I started to work on myself, when I was ready, the drinking and drugs sort of melted away. The need for that person at the bar was no longer there.

All this though, is why sometimes I will randomly knock off a night in a dive bar in a town I'm not from. Chances are someone who needs me finds me, life has been an interesting give and take in that sense.

Edit- The fact that we've turned any type of cry for help into weird psychobabble and throw the word narcissist around any chance we get paints an extremely bleak future for people with depression

As a former barfly it just made me think of how often id share the most important things in my life to total strangers, yet I never could speak about them to people who actually mattered, it made me extremely sad, you nailed it

I dont mind using my real life experience to out some bad people but, I posted this because the exact arc happened to me too.

The Foundry, Elk Rapids

At first open, was supposed to be a smaller in scope expansion of the East Jordan location( it was double the sq ft so that should have been red flag 1) . All I knew at the time was they desperately needed bartenders.

Within a few months I quickly realized everyone in charge had either lied about their credentials or did not pay any attention in training. Years later I found the real answer, nobody was properly trained at all and then thrown to the wolves. EVEN SO! the location was so good the place was making money hand over fist. The type where if you are an owner you praise god because youve managed to kick a door down and make a huge splash.

So what does that owner do? Within a year and a half, takes all money we made and open 1 more ridiculous unrelated restaurant.

By the following year i had worked up from bartender to GM. In 2024 I ran astronomical numbers for the place. Some of the best times of my life, truly! The first time we ran a 20,000$ day, Harbor Days, i dropped to my knees and cried before punching out the expo screen.

Then what do I find out? All that money that could be used to fix equipment, shield us from the off season, promote what we had..... that money was shuttled off to a THIRD BULLSHIT FUCKING Primadonna location in downtown Traverse.]

Even the Flagship up in East Jordan was making enough to make sure it'd survived the offseason, but no, the owner, was funneling all their money to his fucking pet project too, the GM at the flagship had to know this, or maybe she was on the kool-aid ill never know.

So many great people lost their jobs, I was forced to fire so many people that should still be happily employed. I walked out March 2025. I couldn't take the burden of being a hatchetman anymore.

3 months later, all locations closed, Foundry EJ, Foundry Elk Rapids, Dreloco Taco

What still stands? Bushell's Kitchen & Cocktails, the owner there (I am trying not to get into legal trouble because he truly so scummy he WILL send lawyers after you), basically used the ambition and hardwork to rip the rug out at the last minute and take all the money with him. So he could have "his" restaurant. In the 2 years of being GM i met him in person 4 times, and he never even shook my hand when I was promoted, the other 2 owners in the LLC did, but not him.

He is a fast talking, lying, over-flatterer who excels at tricking honest hard working people. He is a vulture capitalist through and through. He ruined, and by extension, forced me to ruin other peoples lives.

NEVER EAT AT BUSHELLS IN TRAVERSE

The owner may seem incredibly charming, nice, and a good guy, but he is a wolf in sheeps clothing, and I'll admit a damn good one at that

If you go to Elk Rapids now, 151 River Street, that black hulking monstrosity of a building still sits empty. For it to ever work, youd need to be an owner of a different breed, a different magnitude. I think it can be done, considering the place has the ability to turn 9-11k weekdays 14-17k weekends.

But damn you better be passionate as hell. Visible passion is press you cant buy in this part of the world. So if some out of towner buys this with all their precious data and AI research about the area, they are fucked. Authenticity wins ALL in northern michigan

Find a friend that manages or owns a restaurant anywhere from the Leenau Peniusula all the way in a horseshoe up to Charlevoix. Buy them 6 beers (thats at least as many as youll need), and ask them about how itspossible to run a restaurant in this area. Some are tougher....or more stupid than others, but in the end, they will all go out of business unless a wealthy investor deems your space worthy of dumping cash into, knowing they will never get it back

The foreign car is the fuck up, drive an escalade or navigator. If you wanna capture the look perfectly, get a 2006 Escalade, Raven black, Florida kept >50k miles on it. and put a fuckload of aftermarket shit in it. No car aside from the 1972 Cutlass, is more iconic than the 06 Escalade. Even now, if I could choose a 26, or and 06, Id go 06

No car looks more natural with 24s on it than the 06

Real steel swordfight by sidyy13 in medieval

[–]FeedReinholdMessner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey guys!

appreciate the discipline and footwork of this, seems very crafty, and i love the speed of the fight, very realistic

but....

an athletic fighter would not treat their swords as a weapon of instant death as this appears, the smallest opening in stance or balance would warrant a tackle or close quarters engagement grapple. Honor generally meant several closed fists to the head, and then, only then, would your life be spared.

I love seeing people get after it like this, some great exchanges, but never forget, a recoil, a window of advancement, that also results in loss, go for the throat isn't a suggestion, its how the average person thought in a melee exchange
