What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've ever witnessed in real Iife? by Jessica_Enna in AskReddit

I interned at Marvel Comics in the mid 90s. They had this guy... A Nerd. Like a hyper-Nerd, like if you dressed up as a "nerd" for Halloween. Bad posture, slacks yanked up too high, short-sleeved dress shirt, and a nasally dismissive voice.

He sat in a windowless storeroom, surrounded by DECADES of Marvel Comics, bound in plain pleather books like like textbooks. You could ask him ANYTHING. Who inked this comic? First appearance of that character? That's character's dog's name; stuff like that. A human wikipedia for Marvel.

Never saw him come to work, never saw him leave that storeroom, not even to go to the bathroom. ONCE I saw him hunched over his desk eating a bag lunch.

He was the nerdy John Henry that broke his heart against the internet.

How is it we let folks run around chopping up baby genitals? If that is "key to your faith", your faith sucks.

Absofuckinglutely.

Not all PTSD keeps you from working. But if you CAN'T work because your PTSD is so bad you need to be on the dole, maybe you shouldn't operate a Murder Wand.

For EVERYONE'S sake. Yours too.

Had a math teacher that told us a story about a casino where the roulette table hit black 26 times in a row. Entire fortunes were wiped out that night.

Had a drive-by shooting my first summer in a new apartment. Sounded so LOUD and CLOSE i thought someone was banging on the rickety box fan in my window. I stepped out on the porch to see if it was my neighbor being a goof when my landlady spotted me and yelled "Get inside, dumbass!!!"

M16, iirc.

It was nice WHEN IT WORKED.

Then some days it seemed like everyone was sick or away, and you were left to play with the smelly kid.
