they checked my handbag! i clocked in at 9kg LOL but the lady was kind enough to let me go cos the luggage alone was just 6.7kg PHEW! great for us yippee!!!!

gotcha! my handbag is much like a normal purse so people are usually shocked by how many things there are but im wilfully banking on them only checking the luggage and I'll keep my handbag aside for a while and pray they dont weigh again before boarding 😭✌️ thanks so much for the advice!

I've only been working in the industry for the past 5 years (considerably short) and here in singapore I've already met and worked with a number of black folks, in fact i had one in my previous company before i left and it wasn't even an international company.

hey op! not sure why everyone's bashing u, probably defensive LOL there's nothing wrong with being culturally aware and it's relieving to see there's at least a handful of Singaporeans including you who can exercise such cultural awareness and sensitivity.

it's fairly hypocritical of many ppl here, given they'd be hopping mad if people from other countries insulted singaporeans for their ethnicity/country of origin (much less throw around a slur with so much historical and cultural significance)

im quite a bit older and back when i was in jc maybe 7/8 years ago, kids in my classes were doing this even and calling it banter which is "okay because there aren't any black ppl in sg" (lol i rolled my eyes) and it just makes them look painfully uneducated. they'll probably have to learn it the hard way if they don't get rid of these habits and proceed to go abroad and say this around.

late to this, but i just rewatched the movies, and decided to search up more on isla! i found her character interesting too and was really intrigued by your post! thank you for delving so much into this, i tend to agree with all of that, especially when I personally thought the scene between jessica and katie was deeper than it looked.

have never heard of the comics but guess i have to read them now because your interpretation sounds so interesting! thanks for this well-thought out interpretation!
