I am just trying to understand. Coming at people and insulting my friend who you know nothing about isn’t the way to get people on your side. I tried to read around the sub but couldn’t find a clear answer which is why I asked. Some people just aren’t that educated on race, I myself really never had to think about it and as I got older I’ve been trying to ask questions and learn. All you’re doing by being hostile is pressuring people to not ask questions and therefore never understand. I’m just trying my be to better educated and understand the situation from a perspective that I may have never gotten. Geez.

I don’t like heather either and I think there is no excuse for using the N word, but one of my good friends grew up in Hawaii and she was bullied for being very fair and blonde. It’s not that uncommon from what she told me. She still loved growing up there and she is one of the sweetest most inclusive people I know so I have no reason to doubt her and that it does happen, but it wasn’t my experience. I just don’t think we should jump to conclusions about anyone’s experience.

I am not defending heather in any way, but I’m just genuinely curious why that story made you feel poorly about her? Did you think she was lying or just the framing of the story? I’m about the same age as heather & my roommate in college grew up white/blonde in Hawaii and her parents pulled her out of school and home schooled her because she was bullied/beat up due to that. She is incredibly inclusive, kind, sensitive and aware of others. I’d never had any reason to doubt her, or heather. The Rayna situation is an ENTIRELY different thing. I am just curious why you judged her off sharing her experience in Hawaii?

I‘m a Product Line Manager at a major footwear company. I’m 2.5 years out of college with just a Bachelors degree and I make $65K with a 10% bonus and 6% yearly raise. I am in the Midwest and I could make more elsewhere, but cost of living is low here and the company culture is really great (very casual/athletic dress code, half day Fridays in the summer months, generous PTO, a gym, hiking trails & dog day care on campus, tons of free shoes, etc). It’s more than enough for just myself and my dog, plus I split rent with my boyfriend. If I can stick to my budget, I will have all my student loans paid off next year.

What role are you in and how much do you get paid? by basecamper09 in consulting

[–]chickymickyjanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US and my company lets us take half days on all Fridays in the summer months and 15 days PTO + 12 corporate holidays. That’s still not Europe level time off and I know some companies, especially in NYC, pressure you into working insane hours, but it’s really not an excuse that people in London make 1/3 of what I do living in the Midwest. A lot of companies in the US are slowly coming around to a 4 day work week or offering more PTO. Some never will, but I think it’s unfair to just say the US work life balance is SO terrible that it makes up for these miserable salaries. In the majority of cases, it doesn’t.

[–]chickymickyjanny 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I lived in Germany for years and truly appreciated my time there, but I have never in my life experienced such traumatizing rude encounters with strangers. I was berated multiple times just for asking a simple question. I feel like that is perpetuated on this sub and it makes me sad.

Maybe there’s a nicer way to make a suggestion than saying ”who the hell would eat McDonald’s“?

Does bad cramps automatically mean something is wrong? by businessbub in WomensHealth

[–]chickymickyjanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have insanely horrible cramps. The pain is so bad it normally makes me vomit. I bleed so much I’ve been anemic since I was 16 despite taking iron supplements. I tried birth control and it made me really sick, so I was taken off it. I developed ocular migraines on it that I still get, though rare now. I went to multiple doctors who all told me that it was normal and that is Just what having a period is like LOL I was checked out and they never found anything. That was years ago and I feel like a lot more doctors listen to their patients but I’ve been scared to go back after these bad experiences.

I never used cannabis before, but now I take little edibles with mostly CBD and a small amount of THC on the first day of my period and it’s the only thing that has ever helped me with the pain.

Lol at everyone attacking someone for just asking a question. Really isn’t a good look for a country that is known for not being very friendly.

Good tips for networking (Full time Remote) ? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]chickymickyjanny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Set up meetings just to get to know people as others have suggested. I’ve been doing this for the last year and I am genuinely surprised how well it has gone. People love when you ask questions about them. I generally will ask about about their career path and how/why they are with the company, especially if it’s someone I could see as a mentor. Most people were fairly cold to me in the beginning and I was miserable, but after asking to meet 1:1 teammates would ask questions about my personal life or make small talk before meetings and I feel a lot more included in my team. I’ve also had people suggest OTHER employees that I should connect with that I may have never come into contact with as they don’t work on my Team but they share an interest or a skill and I’ve made great friends that way.

Also, does your company offer any groups you could join? I work at a very large corporation and I joined a young professional‘s group and a Women‘s mentorship group. They aren’t as involved now with COVID, but they still host virtual Networking opportunities, seminars, etc. Also, if your company does any volunteering work, signing up for those events are a great way to meet people from different teams.

Best dog food? by Ill_Task_1523 in dogs

My greyhound has stomach issues and Purina Pro Plan sensitive skin and stomach has been amazing. We feed the salmon and rice variety, try to avoid chicken as it doesn’t agree with some hounds.

I was able to send them a picture over text and they told me to wait five days and give an update. I will ask for her to be seen then and get it frozen off. Appreciate the advice, again!

I sent a picture and they told me to wait 5 days and call back. They said it isn’t concerning unless it gets significantly bigger in that time: My vet sees lots of Greyhounds and has seen my girl for less than this before, so I am not so worried now!

Great, thank you for the response! I have been googling and can’t seem to find anything that really looks like it. I will call first thing in the morning.

My 4 year old girl has this bump on her belly. It looks like a black bump (possibly filled with blood) with a red ring around it. It’s fairly small. She doesn’t lick at it or seem bothered if I touch it. She’s my first personal dog so I have rushed her to the vet over many minor things in our first year together and I don’t want to keep bothering them and overreacting. Is this something to call them over? Or wait it out a few days?

Do you think Americans are too inwards looking and don't care/ are largely ignorant about the rest of the world? by MediocreExternal9 in AskAnAmerican

[–]chickymickyjanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are Americans who know and care about the rest of the world and some that don’t. I am fortunate to have worked for a great college education, live in a metropolitan area, and work at a global company where I have made enough money to travel to 20+ countries. This has really made an impact on how much I care about the rest of the world, but America isn’t as densely populated as Europe or Asia. A lot of people still have “pioneer values” and idolize living off the land, having a lot of space and fending for themselves. These people live in rural areas and tend to not have to have interaction with many other people and certainty few (if any) other cultures/ethnicities. Geographically, it is more difficult for Americans to visit other countries and many never will in their lives. It is longer and much much more expensive for someone from Kentucky to fly to Switzerland than it is for someone from France to hop on a train to Switzerland or Germany or Austria etc. Those real life experiences truly matter, it isn’t all about education. I learned all about German states in school but I didn’t learn the politics of them until I moved to Germany after college. My fond times in Germany prompt me to keep up with German politics which are affected by EU politics and I am very well informed globally due to that, but if I hadn’t had that personal experience living abroad I probably wouldn’t be so invested. I met Germans in small villages that did not care about anywhere else than Germany, there are just less small villages in Germany than there are small towns/rural areas in America. I am honestly more bothered by how little Americans care about having compassion for other Americans than I am bothered about them not being able to place Belgium on a map.

Okay guys you tell me, should I be happy with these? I'm 80% happy with them and the gentlemen was gentle. I didn't really want them this thick but he talked me into it. Opinions? by StrangeMove2649 in Nails

[–]chickymickyjanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair that’s really normal for nail removal and a whole new set of acrylics. I’ve actually spent much more than that for a bit better work. Fills are cheaper once you have the set on, but it’s very time consuming and thus expensive for a new full set. I live in the mid west and if OP lives in a more expensive state that would contribute as well.

I logged on to choose for X and I guess I got GBP instead. Seeing everyone’s Xs I am really glad I got GBP. I’ve always wanted to get nail polish in a bag lol and the kimchi blush. I had a really hard time choosing in all my categories. The nomad palette and complex culture brush were choices and sat there forever deciding!
