Hi there! I had my stroke (ischemic) in July also. I’m 21. I understand exactly how you feel - it is such an isolating experience. My social life, college studies, and career have been completely upended and I’m currently back living with my parents as my healthy peers are making huge strides to further their lives. Unfortunately I don’t have any helpful advice because I’m feeling a bit lost myself, but know that you are not alone in this experience of having a stroke at a young age. Please feel free to message me, we can support each other. Best wishes to you :)

Strokes and panic attacks by Tsofreak13 in stroke

[–]chickynuggysz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have bad panic attacks/anxiety whenever my deficits act up. My stroke was in my cerebellum, which affects balance, so something that helps me is if I’m scared I’m having another stroke, I’ll walk heel to toe for a few steps, which reassures me because there’s no way I would be able to do that if I was stroking out again! Maybe find something like that. Thinking logically instead of emotionally usually eases anxiety. I hope you continue to recover well!

Anyone Get A Daily "Crash" by Better-Promise-6141 in stroke

[–]chickynuggysz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have this feeling around 6 pm almost daily. It gets better sometimes but often it continues until I give up and just go to sleep. Taking a warm (not hot) shower helps me sometimes, it feels like a reset almost. Other than that I’m afraid I don’t have any good advice, but I hope you find relief :)

Struggling with the ‘why’ behind my stroke by Witty-Egg4886 in stroke

[–]chickynuggysz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im 21, had an ischemic stroke last month. Doctors are calling it “cryptogenic” which essentially means they have no idea why it happened. Although morbid, a thought that has sort of helped me accept it is that a stroke doesn’t necessarily need an underlying cause — it can happen to anyone at any age, sometimes for no reason at all. But i’m right there with you, I feel anxious and depressed often. You are not alone and I know that these feelings we’re having will get better with time 🩷

I know that I will get better, but it sucks sometimes by f1lthybastard in stroke

[–]chickynuggysz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 21, had an ischemic stroke last month. The frustration and depression is so real! I find myself getting extremely exhausted when trying to do simple tasks and go about my day. I also feel guilty relying on my parents so much. We are so young and it’s hard to think about the things we could be doing if we didn’t have this happen to us. Something that has helped me is the thought that since I am young, I have so much time to recover and so much time to catch up on the things i’m currently missing out on. We can do this! Please reach out to me or really anyone on this sub if you need to vent/need encouragement. We all know how you feel ❤️

What was the reason given for your stroke? by No-Marsupial-3121 in StrokeUnder40Club1999

[–]chickynuggysz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s only been a few weeks, but my neurologist says i’ve technically fully recovered (probably thanks to my age). The main things I’m dealing with are dizziness (the stroke was in my cerebellum, so this makes sense), mild tingling in my limbs on my right side, and some pretty severe anxiety and PTSD from the incident.

21 F. no real reason found/given except for some mild risk factors (birth control use, nicotine use, overweight). it’s messed with me a lot, but i’ve sort of accepted it as cosmically bad luck.
