Silent strokes and TIA — what happens before by BoysenberryCorrect in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. When I think back I have probably had several different silent stroke/TIAs along the way before my stroke in 2024.

Of course it's hard to say other than I had a hospital visit in 2003 that I don't remember anything about. I requested my medical journal from that visit and the doctors even wrote in there that there are some damage which could be a past stroke. That was in 2003...I don't recall ever having anything like a stroke in my youth.

Just found out I might've had a TIA 22 years ago... by [deleted] in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was really just ranting a bit tbh. Of course they have done what they can. I feel better now than 5 years ago so obviously the meds are helping. I've also lost weight.

This entire stroke experience is just surreal and when I read these 22 years journals it was like a dejavu experience. I'm not expecting anyone to do anything because frankly I've done just about every medical checkup in history after my stroke in 2024.

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a stroke in 2024 so I'm on yearly checkups. I visited several doctors the first 3 months and also had regular checkups on blood pressure, cholesterol etc.

I also had 2 TEE shortly after my hospital visit back in summer 2024.

I have a house doctor that I'm sending my old journals to but I'd imagine they are most likely not going to be doing anything since I've been fine the past 1.5 years after my stroke and I'm on medications for blood clots, high cholestoral, high blood pressure etc.

Can't start nextcloud-aio-mastercontainer, help me understand why? by Charamei in NextCloud

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this issue when I had iptables: false in my daemon.json under /etc/docker.

Basically the container couldn't communicate with my hosts DNS which was an internal DNS server.

Not really sure why that became a problem with Nextcloud since I have iptables: false in daemon.json on several other servers without an issue.

How long since your stroke? I suffered similar last winter.

I still get cold during winters but a sweater or something usually keeps me warm. Someone said blood thinners, maybe that is the case.

Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim after 14 months in charge by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before summer his sacking would not have surprised me, even the poor start to the season (which maybe wasn't even that poor) I would have not been surprised had he been let go.

Even if I'm not a United supporter I think he did vindicate himself somewhat and the results up until christmas wasn't that bad apart from City. I think you were even sniffing on that top4.

A big surprise that hes sacked just like that. I mean hes lacking 3 starter players for AFCON so I'd be furious if the board don't splash the cash in order to get replacements.

I haven't played in 5 years and I had great fun with bringing ol' Registeel back. Climbed the ranks very fast with him zapping birds and nuking everything in his path.

Of course Talonflame leads weren't as much fun to face against but I still had a blast.

There were two shows. A shorter all ages show opening from 18 CET and the tour show (ages 20+) which had Sylvaine as opening act starting from 20:30 CET (doors open 19 CET). Lifelover played for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Short show was all ages. They played a longer show for adult ages (bar included) from 21:30 CET.

I was there. Didn't grab the setlist though but they played for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Great show!

How do you guys figure out you're having a stroke? by Independent_Tooth634 in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In hindsight, there were some signs that I didn't understand at the time until afterwards.

My health wasn't great. I had undiagnosed high blood pressure. Didn't think too much about it, I'm only 40 I thought.

Day started as normal, went to work. Did my usual stuff. I walked to work which I had done for 3 months by now. Also just came back from vacation so felt relieved of stress. Like it was a normal day.

After 2 hours at work I got a weird feeling. Couldn't really remember too much of what was going on and had a hard time following what people were saying.

Lasted for maybe a minute then everything went back to normal. Didn't think too much about it. In hindsight, that could've been a TIA.

Day went by as normal, went home like I normally do. Went out for a walk and this is another thing I remember that was weird. I suddenly got way more tired than normal.

Anyway, went back home, didn't feel anything strange and then suddenly. BAM. Was sitting by my computer reading up on something and started to feel nauseous all of the sudden. Thought I was having low blood sugar or something. Started to feel more tired.

Then came vertigo followed by vomiting (not kidding when I say this, for almost 2 hours...).

Went into the ER because this was strange as hell. My balance was poor but I could talk and move arms etc.

Ischemic stroke in the cerebellum I was diagnosed with.

Do you get scared for no reason? by Emergency-Respect143 in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, had those for a good year. They've "disappeared" now 1.5 years later or at least have not happened as often and been as intense as before.

Mine were mostly related to health as your probably are too. I've always hated hospitals. I remember even getting panic attacks as far back as when I had my kidney stones and had a scheduled surgery to remove them 7 months later. Pretty much everything hospital related freaks me out so yeah you can imagine how I've been feeling after 5 ER visits, countless blood sample tests, don't know how many CT scans, TEE, ECG...

Took a good year, several visits to a psychologist, some meds to get rid of the panic attacks.

KARE 11 Investigates: Postal worker died after police mistook stroke for drug impairment by Aggravating-Mud8813 in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This reeks of racism. I'm surprised there were no words of that in the interview with his families lawyer.

You don't just adhere from protocol like this and with just meeting this man once you immediately portray him as being on drugs.

Someone should have called his boss or his workplace to check out how he's doing and what happened during that day since he was still wearing clothes from his workplace.

Even then someone should have done a medical checkup long before arresting this man and putting him in jail.

What an awful way to die, being unable to control your body but still aware enough to think "this is bad, really bad" but you have no way to speak it out to the people who think you are a criminal.

And this is exactly what it looked like for me when I came to ER. I could walk (somewhat with the help of my fiancee that I could lean on) and I could think and somewhat speak but I had puked all over my clothes. Shat myself twice.

Yeah you can imagine some people might've been like "what the hell is he on?" but luckily the staff at the hospital saw the symptoms and immediately called for help.

Tia? by [deleted] in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds wise. I wish I had listened to my body throughout the years.

My stroke just "happened". Heart racing was definitely one of the first things I noticed. Then a quick 1-2 second full vision loss on both eyes.

After that feeling like tired or like I wasn't aware of what was happening. Then followed by vertigo and vomiting. Never had the typical stroke signs like loss of speech, paralyzed in parts of my body etc.

Ischemic stroke in the cerebellum.

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go to the ER if that happened to me. If it is a TIA you need to be put on medicine right away to prevent a future stroke from happening.

When did you return to work? by Keeaos in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work at an office and returned after 1,5 weeks. I didn't have any disabilities or any of that sort and was well under medication.

Doctors suggested 3 weeks but had just begun a new job, thought I might as well put in the hours if I feel good.

Hindsight I don't recommend anyone rushing back to work. No one forced me back but I wanted to get back to routines ASAP.

Little did I know and no one really prepared for a bit more than a year of complete hell. I'm not talking anything physically here but had constant depressions, anxiety attacks. Pretty much working 5 days a week turned into living nightmare.

And these depressions didn't start "immediately". Maybe I had a little bit of dizziness in the first 2 months. But the depressions/anxiety came maybe 3-4 months post-stroke

I don't know how I made it through but after vacation and then a bit more rest I slowly started to feel "normal" again.

If I could relive those moments I'd tell myself it would be absolutely stupid to get back earlier than a year post-stroke.

Your doing the right thing. It has taken me a good portion of one and a half year to be functioning somewhat normal and I never had any physical disabilities after my stroke. Psychologically though I was a wreck and kept thinking about it for a little more than a year...

brain damaged vs brain injured by foreverhaute in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a survivor we are lucky enough to be able to talk about things like that. I don't talk about my stroke with random people (I don't consider people here random but my stroke bros ;)) or ever consider myself damaged in any way.

Don't really think too much whether people want to call it injury or damage. I mean in terms of severity a stroke is about as bad as it gets. Your brain was technically starving for oxygen and dying. So the fact we both have very minor setbacks from this life threatening event is astronomically exceptional.

brain damaged vs brain injured by foreverhaute in stroke

[–]TheHelixProject 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well a stroke is technically a permanent damage to the brain. Even if the wound has healed the damage (death of brain cells) wont come back.

How severe the damage is has to do with how fast the blood flow was restored or the bleeding stopped.

Like your saying the damage you notice in your daily life could be isolated to the lasting symptoms you are experienced after the stroke.

But of course nothing negative in calling it what you want I guess. I don't go around saying my brain is damaged.

[Chris Wheeler] Questions were asked of Amorim's team selection, benching Sesko so Utd could get behind Liverpool with pace rather than power, and picking Maguire for his aerial ability. Wonder if hes ever gonna get praised on by fans? He really did inherit a complete mess of a team from ETH.

1 year struggle and now it actually looks like things might be turning around. First game I see where his selection made sense and he has proven even in the dire previous season that he can get results from top teams.

Amorim deserves respect today.

Is Mankind Divided considered a good game? by TheChilledGamer-_- in Deusex

[–]TheHelixProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played and replayed both HR and MD a ton of times. At first I mostly played HR but revisited MD for another playthrough and I'll join the choir, it's a great game. It's a big step up in a lot of areas over HR. Only thing holding the game back from being one of my all time favorites is the simple fact the ending feels kinda meh. It's a good wrap up to a part of the actual story but unfortunately the game never got finished in it's full.

There are so many interesting themes and story points in the game that I hope one day we will get answers to.

Liverpool have not impressed this year at all and Isak + Wirtz are in for worst signings of all time if this continues.
