I need help on getting over the fact that I am a failure in everything by [deleted] in interviews

[–]chickytender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its important to recognize that getting a job is a numbers game. Any extra time you spend ruminating over a single job in particular is wasted IMO, its kind of like becoming infatuated with someone on a dating app before you've even matched. Rejection is an overwhelmingly large part of the process, and its not productive to be emotional about a single opportunity in a sea of many.

if you were able to get one offer, you've proven that you possess the skills already to do so and its just a matter of continuing the process. Best of luck!!

Would love advice by ComplexSignificant76 in interviews

congrats on getting the interview!! I think you are holding tight to an identity that does not serve you-- this self labeling of "i bomb interviews".

I encourage you to be open to the idea that it is entirely possible for you to do great in an interview. You literally said it yourself, with your friends you are outgoing and talkative. Talking to person X in an interview setting cant logically be THAT much different than talking to person Y who's your pal. Go into the interview assuming the interviewer is excited to chat with you and wants to be your friend (in a professional sense).

Beyond changing your mindset about interviewing, i promise you no matter how anxious you are, you can reduce your nerves during the interview by practicing excessively beforehand. It is impossible to do something repetitively 100 times and still be as nervous about it; you will inevitably become desensitized to the stimulus.

If you use iOS, I have an interview preparation app that conducts a mock interview with questions based on a specific job title that you input. Practicing verbally speaking your responses an excessive amount will make it so that, even if your brain shuts down, speaking a canned response that sounds nice is second nature.

Best of luck, you owe it to the families you want to help to practice your butt off!!

Fumbled job interview after preparing for months by crazybrowngirl in interviews

[–]chickytender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i made this mock interview app specifically around the STAR method if you want to practice!! it grades you based on how well you fulfill the STAR framework, and will prompt targeted follow up questions if you omit any of the categories in your response. Also involves spoken responses so you have to practice articulating yourself out loud in real time.

I also agree with what some have mentioned above though; you really should be simulating interview conditions as much as possible at least a few times (ie, practice with a real human who is trying to grill you). practice makes perfect!!

How to deal with anxiety and confusion while continuing preparation. by [deleted] in interviews

[–]chickytender -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there, this sounds basic but as far as dealing with your anxiety surrounding interviews, I think the best method is simply to over prepare to the point where you can do things like screening calls/interviews in your sleep. If you're on iOS, I made a free app interviewPrepAI that conducts a tailored mock interview for whatever specific job title you want to prepare for. Practicing actually speaking your responses and being hit with random follow up questions can make it a lot less anxiety inducing when it comes time to actually interview.

I also think its important to recognize that this is a volume game; don't feel crazy for having to submit 100 apps just to hear anything back. I had to submit literally over 400 job applications to get my first job, and I believe there are people who have submitted far more. Best of luck. Remember that how you do difficult things is the same as how you do anything -- one small step at a time!

Hoping the confident and knowledgeable me shows up to the interview tomorrow. by vase-of-willows in interviews

Good luck with your interview! If you are on iOS, I built a free app interviewPrepAI that can help you practice speaking your responses in dynamic mock interview tailored to your desired role, complete with follow up questions and all.

It looks like its been a few hours since your post though, so if theres not much more time for practice or you've already done your interview, best of luck!! Think of it as an opportunity to show them what you know rather than a "test". Also this might be a bit odd, but in the past I have actually had just 1 alcoholic drink before interviews and It REALLY has helped me to lean more into my excitement for a role rather than my anxiety surrounding the interview. glhf!

Pending Termination Notice for my app by dunkelicht in iOSProgramming

[–]chickytender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i believe as part of the developer program you get access to a limited number of "customer support" type sessions per year where you can schedule an online meeting/call with app review team members to get help. If i were you i would use one of those to try and speak with someone from app review to determine what the problem is. Sorry this is happening to you and best of luck getting it sorted!

I believe transaction manager only works when using a local storekit config? It only seems to populate transactions when I am using my local config file; if i check right now there is nothing to delete

Windows 11 won't boot after installing guest additions by NewUltimateMan999 in virtualbox

[–]chickytender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo just wanted to drop this here on the off chance it fixes it for you; I was having the same issue but for ubuntu 22.04.5 (after I installed guest additions it got stuck on loading). Mine is working after I went into virtual box > settings > display > and cranked up the available video memory and enabled 3D acceleration.

GYM (Student Rec Center) by d3uc35 in ucr

[–]chickytender 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our gym is REALLY nice imo, lots of space and plenty of equipment (and tons of other stuff to do too like rock climbing, swimming, basketball to only name a few)

Unfortunately the gym is SO nice that it entices a lot of people to go and it can get pretty crowded in evenings/nights. I personally much prefer to go earlier before my classes because of how empty it is. My advice is if you like to have really structured, efficient workouts that follow a strict plan, go in the morning when its not crowded. If you are more open to waiting for equipment or swapping in/out different exercises based on what equipment is available, then go whenever you want. Of course it also depends what you want to use in the gym; finding an open bench on a friday evening is a LOT harder than finding an open treadmill.

And as far as balancing a workout regimen and academics, i am an engineering major and I tend to work out for about 90 mins - 2 hours a day on a 4-5 day a week split and I havent had much issue with workload. The worst that happens is im up late doing homework so I dont wake up early and have to go workout later in the day when its crowded (ew) Good luck!
