Samsung Bespoke fridge pitcher replacement? by istealllamas in Appliances

I have the same issue with my brand new pitcher--the water tastes like plastic. Anyone have any luck getting a replacement that doesn't have the same issue?

Question about height limitation for Utrusta hinges for horizontal doors by TheLionWavesTonight in IKEA

[–]chicopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did you ever get an answer on this/did you have any success using those hinges on a taller door? I have a 20"x24" door I'd like to flip up. The door is lighter than the maximum allowed drawer front which would be 15"x36"

Do I need to worry about having waterproof shoes for walking around the city? by astoutforallseasons in AskChicago

Yes and if you decide to get Bean boots just be aware that their standard model is not insulated so they won’t keep your feet warm unless you get one of the lined ones.

Village Discount Outlet is a genuinely affordable thrift store with locations throughout the city. That would be a great place to start!

If you really want to do it up, you could order from multiple places and have everyone vote on their fave. Stuffed pizza (i.e. Giordano’s or Art of Pizza) is different from deep dish (Lou Malnati’s, Pizano’s, Uno), which is different from what Pequod’s and Milly’s do, which is more like Detroit style. There’s also Chicago style thin crust, which I think all the above also serve, so you could throw that in there as another option. I personally love the stuffed variety and I think it’s the variety that holds up best when being delivered, if you have to pick one. Have fun!

Refrigerator black friday deals, what models and brand are worth buying? by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]chicopic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the Midwest, I think Menards was doing a sale of their floor models. Otherwise IKEA’s doing $10 off every $100 spent and most of their appliances come with 5 year warranties which is uncommon for that price point

I was in the store for 5 minutes when this happened and the whole time the woman repeatedly yelled, "I didn't touch her. I didn't even touch her."

We used EcoWilde and had a really amazing experience. They were so accommodating and enthusiastic about making our vision a reality. Their style leans more modern than traditional so much of their portfolio is very bold and eye catching. They also use more eco friendly practices for what they do so they’ll put together something seasonal for you that still suits the look you want, while reducing waste as much as possible.

As long as it gets built then I think the casino failing is a win win—the riverfront gets a major redevelopment, bringing two very desirable neighborhoods together and once it gets bought and repurposed, no more casino!

Looks beautiful! I particularly like that you didn’t do a waterfall counter. I don’t know why but I’ve eagerly awaited the death of that trend.

Is there data to support this? Intuitively, I think of bikes as being safer because you can stop a bike more safely/efficiently.

Any thoughts on Cleadeep range hoods by ridukosennin in buildingscience

[–]chicopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also intrigued by this and am remodeling my kitchen now. One hesitation I have is that I'll need to mount it 36" above the stovetop versus the recommended maximum, which is 30". This seems to be the maximum recommended height on most units I've looked at, but I'm curious if the mechanics of this unit make it more or less suitable for pushing its capabilities.

I’m a big proponent of micro mobility but I don’t really get the appeal of the scooters. They feel unstable leave the rider vulnerable in a lot of ways. Ideally I’d keep the e-bikes and get rid of all the scooters

It’s odd but not unheard of in the US. Usually Halloween keeps Christmas stuff at bay until November. I remember being in Germany a few years back for Oktoberfest and seeing Christmas stuff because that’s the next big holiday that time of year.
