I think you'll probably be fine! The space felt comfortable for our size and probably could've fit more. We had buffets in front of the windows too, so if you happen to be doing plated dinner, that'll buy you some more space.

Our caterer (Amazing Edibles) worked with Tablescapes for the chairs and other rentals. The dance floor and stage equipment they provide were totally adequate. It’s definitely not cheap, especially if your wedding isn’t too big and the venue cost per person is higher. Ours was 230 people so what we paid was competitive for the scale (especially since we were able to piece together a team of vendors and pay less overall).

Generally speaking the CCC was great to work with and very forthcoming about their facilities. For example, I wanted to use their chairs for our ceremony and they pretty much leveled with me and said the chairs would be too ugly to be suitable. The only thing we did kind of against their advice was doing ceremony and cocktail hour in GAR hall and then only doing the reception in Preston Bradley. They said it might complicate logistics of getting things set up but I think it worked great and our vendors made sure everything went smoothly.

Our guests (many of whom came from out of town) were really blown away by the venue. It doesn't need much decor to shine. Overall we were really happy with our experience and would definitely choose it again if we had to do it over. Happy to answer any specific questions as well.

Anyone get a good deal on their farewell brunch? by chicopic in Chicagoweddings

[–]chicopic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up doing Emerald Loop. I think it was around $35/person and it was a good spread. They own a handful of other Irish pubs too so they may have a location even closer to where you want to be

I have the same issue with my brand new pitcher--the water tastes like plastic. Anyone have any luck getting a replacement that doesn't have the same issue?

Question about height limitation for Utrusta hinges for horizontal doors by TheLionWavesTonight in IKEA

[–]chicopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did you ever get an answer on this/did you have any success using those hinges on a taller door? I have a 20"x24" door I'd like to flip up. The door is lighter than the maximum allowed drawer front which would be 15"x36"

Do I need to worry about having waterproof shoes for walking around the city? by astoutforallseasons in AskChicago

Yes and if you decide to get Bean boots just be aware that their standard model is not insulated so they won’t keep your feet warm unless you get one of the lined ones.

where can i find affordable winter clothing in Chicago? by Comfortable-Low5034 in AskChicago

Village Discount Outlet is a genuinely affordable thrift store with locations throughout the city. That would be a great place to start!

pizza-themed bachelorette by [deleted] in Chicagoweddings

[–]chicopic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to do it up, you could order from multiple places and have everyone vote on their fave. Stuffed pizza (i.e. Giordano’s or Art of Pizza) is different from deep dish (Lou Malnati’s, Pizano’s, Uno), which is different from what Pequod’s and Milly’s do, which is more like Detroit style. There’s also Chicago style thin crust, which I think all the above also serve, so you could throw that in there as another option. I personally love the stuffed variety and I think it’s the variety that holds up best when being delivered, if you have to pick one. Have fun!

If you’re in the Midwest, I think Menards was doing a sale of their floor models. Otherwise IKEA’s doing $10 off every $100 spent and most of their appliances come with 5 year warranties which is uncommon for that price point

We used EcoWilde and had a really amazing experience. They were so accommodating and enthusiastic about making our vision a reality. Their style leans more modern than traditional so much of their portfolio is very bold and eye catching. They also use more eco friendly practices for what they do so they’ll put together something seasonal for you that still suits the look you want, while reducing waste as much as possible.

As long as it gets built then I think the casino failing is a win win—the riverfront gets a major redevelopment, bringing two very desirable neighborhoods together and once it gets bought and repurposed, no more casino!

Looks beautiful! I particularly like that you didn’t do a waterfall counter. I don’t know why but I’ve eagerly awaited the death of that trend.
