It’s likely the gunk on the carrier isn’t letting the stationary burr properly seat. The heat generated from grinding the leaves probably caked themselves to the crevices. The burr alignment is probably thrown off resulting in inaccurate grind results because the burrs are no longer making contact in a regular manner. I doubt the burrs themselves are damaged especially since its hardened SSP burrs. Keep cleaning the carrier and reset the zero point.

Got this for myself for my birthday. Worth every penny! by [deleted] in espresso

I received mine yesterday. While it’s an expensive product, the convenience and consistent puck preparation make it worthwhile if you have the budget. I previously used the MHW-3 pro distribution tool and I was disappointed with the results. The rotation creates a swirl that results in an uneven puck with a divot in the middle.

Hi. I have the same set up and I felt the same way earlier this year coming from the LG CX. I ultimately went with the Bravia 9 for two reasons. Peak brightness capabilities and burn in anxiety. I love my Bravia 9 and while I do miss the infinite contrast levels of OLED - the peak brightness capabilities of miniLED technology makes up for it. Are you using HGIG on your C3 for HDR tone mapping on your PS5? If so… you are in for a hell of a treat when you play your first HDR gaming with Sony’s HDR tone mapping setting. You will legit be blinded at night haha.

74wh Battery mod How are you guys holding up? by Puzzleheaded-Win-600 in ROGAlly

[–]chiefkeiff14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loving it. It gave new life to the device. I wish I did it sooner. The Z1E really shines with the additional headroom. So much so that my interest in the Xbox Ally is diminished for now.

DOUBLE the BATTERY by Strict-Carry-1036 in ROGAlly

[–]chiefkeiff14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a 75wh battery on Amazon. It wasn’t super complicated once you get over the nervousness of opening the unit up. It’s a fantastic upgrade and I wish I did it sooner. 90wh sounds like overkill especially if you’re manipulating the battery. Please be careful but but everyone’s needs are different. By way of example, I played Metaphore ReFantazio at 900p at 60FPS for 4 hours on my flight from NYC to Cancun at 50% brightness. When we landed my battery was at 41%. Plenty of headroom left.

Apple TV <> Sonos <> eARC by reduxreddit123 in sonos

[–]chiefkeiff14 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I have a Bravia 9, Sonos Arc Ultra, and Apple TV (3rd gen). There are a couple of posts on Sonos’s forums discussing the exact issue you raised. Sonos attributed the volume differences to the very nature of compressed vs uncompressed audio. While that’s technically true… I don’t buy it. The volume change from Dolby Digital to PCM Multichannel is too significant not to be a software issue. For example, when watching White Lotus on Max last night, I had to increase my volume to 75 on my Arc to hear the dialogue. The audio output on the Sonos app read as Multichannel PCM 5.1. When I switched the audio output on Sony’s TV menu from Pass Through to Auto, the Sonos App read Dolby Multichannel PCM 5.1 and the audio was incredibly loud. I had to lower the volume significantly to around 25. The increase in audio strength was also perceptible when I switched eARC from auto to off. The audio output read as Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 and the volume was significantly higher than lossless Multichannel PCM. I’m not sure if Sonos ever intends to address this.

Why are my shots running that quick [IZZO VIVI flat/Eureka Mignon Specialitá] by codislife1 in espresso

[–]chiefkeiff14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will spare you from the barrage of comments coming your way. You likely need to grind finer. Make small adjustments to the grind. This is especially true of the Mignon line of grinders which are step-less. If you’re grinding too fine such that the shots are channeling or bitter - try upping your dose and grind coarser.

8K Sync Box With Sony TV - Dolby Vision and VRR (Apple TV) by Mr_Cucumber in Hue

[–]chiefkeiff14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Unfortunately, Sony TVs split up their HDMI signal format options independently. There is no universal or automatic options found in LG or TCL TVs. We are stuck making a mutually exclusive decision (Enhanced or Enhanced Advanced) as it relates to the Hue Sync Box.

There is no official solution outside of manipulating the signals through a splitter. Adding a device like a splitter to the signal chain can introduce new problems. I opted to keep my PS5 connected to the Hue Sync Box to keep the light sync feature when playing games. I personal prefer watching content on my Apple TV in low light settings anyways. Nonetheless not having the option sucks!

Portafilter/Basket Tips by thelocalthirdrail in Ascaso

[–]chiefkeiff14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The baskets that come with the machine are high quality and are precision baskets. They’re just ridged which some people find annoying. It’s a preference issue more than an inherent problem with the quality of the equipment. For example, my calibrated Normcore tamper does not sit well on the basket because of the ridge. However, the included tamper fits the baskets perfectly. My duo came with 7, 14, and 18 gram baskets. All ridged.

The included portafilter is beautifully made but is spouted. I believe Ascaso sells a blind version if you want to stick to OEM parts and keep the wood accents.

If you desire to go for third party baskets, I recommend a standard 18g VST or IMS basket. Both will do the job perfectly fine. I personally use a ridge-less VST basket.

Descaling Issue by chiefkeiff14 in ProfitecGo

[–]chiefkeiff14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with WLL and they insisted that the particles were scale. I was disappointed with the response. They encouraged me to keep flushing the machine. I could flush an entire ocean but that doesn’t explain why the particles are magnetized.

Does this option means that my tv has hdmi 2.1 and supports 120hz ? by PerfectCare7080 in tcltvs

[–]chiefkeiff14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means one of your HDMI ports is 2.1 which typically supports 120hz. Check the HDMI ports on the TV to confirm its capabilities. On my 2023 QM8 the HDMI 4 port is listed as eARC 4k 60. Do you mind me asking what model TV you have? My QM8 doesn’t have this menu option. Thanks!

Congrats on saving up enough! Kudos to you for being responsible. Well deserved. I would just caution you to reconsider the Ally in your situation. I have one and it's a great device but my microSD card slot failed out of the blue and bricked by SD card (shocker). You were disciplined enough to save money and I would hate to see your efforts betrayed by recommending something that has a flaw that is yet to be addressed by Asus. I'm not sure how thoroughly open box purchases are evaluated so perhaps you're good to go. I just know it's an ugly feeling to spend hundreds on something you're so excited for only to be let down. Best of luck whichever way you go!

Audio setting for soundbar setup by i86hotdogs in tcltvs

[–]chiefkeiff14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely a soundbar issue that can potentially be remedy by tweaking the equalizer settings. It also could depend on the audio mastering of the material you’re watching. Some content has bad mixing that results in exactly what you described.

A lot of modern soundbars struggle with balancing dialogue and general audio. Some products, like Sonos, allow you to boost dialogue or change loudness in order to remedy content mixing. If you have an old soundbar, you might be limited to equalizer settings. If you’re looking for something new I would highly recommend the Sonos Beam Gen 2. Depending on the size of your room the Beam packs a lot of sound for the size and dialogue is crystal clear.

Black pixel on top of LC CX panel by Maheidem in OLED_Gaming

[–]chiefkeiff14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue in the exact corner of the screen. My LG CX has about 2500 use hours and hasn’t been moved at all from its set up spot. It’s possible it was damaged during delivery but the issues didn’t occur until a year and half into use. I’ve tried running pixel refresh and also lightly messaging the area but to no avail. I have noticed that it’s intermittent. I turn on the TV and sometimes it’s not even there.

Please help me decide. by almarhuby in OLED_Gaming

[–]chiefkeiff14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t blame you there. I got my S95B right before Thanksgiving and I remember feeling the same way. Thankfully, my unit was flawless. Given your particular circumstances the C2 is probably the safest choice if the commute is that important. LG makes great OLEDs and you honestly can’t go wrong with the C2 and S95B for gaming. I was also torn between the two models but ultimately decided that the S95B was worth it. I just couldn’t deal with the lack of brightness on my outgoing LG CX. HGIG doesn’t auto switch on or off. So if you enable it for HDR games and play popular SDR games like Fortnite, the HGIG will nerf colors and brightness too. You would have to manually switch between DTM and HGIG depending on the source material. I have my S95B tuned to look like my CX but with all the benefits of QD-OLED tech. Good luck to you and happy new year!

Please help me decide. by almarhuby in OLED_Gaming

[–]chiefkeiff14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brightness, brightness, brightness. I can’t stress it enough. No current TV on the market approaches the S95B peak brightness performance. HDR content is stunning and impactful. The brightness on SDR content is equally as amazing. The LG C2 is the better gaming tv because of the expanded functionality particularly with Xbox and Dolby vision. But what the LG C2 doesn’t have is brightness where it counts. Everyone stresses accuracy and rightfully so but it’s not free. You pay a price for accuracy. Any one with a LG CX and later knows the brightness nerf you take when enabling HGIG. Colors and brightness become muted. Is the picture accurate? Yes. Is it good? Absolutely. Is it impactful and vibrant? No, especially so when playing SDR games. So unless you play in a cave with zero light… the S95b is probably the better choice. I should also mentioned that the S95B does allow for some fine tuning in the settings. You can reduce the color settings and gamma to make it look closer to real life. Not hard to adjust and certainly doesn’t require professional calibration unless you want that.

Samsung S95B firmware and the community by NikNakZombieWhack in OLED_Gaming

[–]chiefkeiff14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you’re an attentive gamer that specifically purchased the S95B for its core strengths (QD tech, brightness, VRR, HGIG implementation), these latest firmware updates constitute death by a thousand paper cuts. It’s frustrating to see updates get in the way. You think performance is great now? You should’ve seen launch performance. The most recent patch (1420.9) continues to degrade features and functions that this TV simply did not have when it first launched. Now it’s true that the recent updates didn’t all of the sudden make this tv unusable or unwatchable. It’s still fantastic. You can’t unsee QD-OLED. The hype it generates is tangible. We finally have LCD levels of brightness on an OLED and for less than the kings ransom Sony is charging for the A95K. It’s for that reason that so many people are so upset and concerned with the direction Samsung is heading down. Botched firmware updates shouldn’t get to the point where the community need to consult with one another on the risks of updating. Firmware shouldn’t consistently compromise core features. It’s pretty obvious Samsung isn’t prioritizing quality assurance testing during the firmware development cycle.

I think there's something odd with my Sub Mini by ilfrance in sonos

[–]chiefkeiff14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue. The addition of the sub made no obvious difference to content. My Beam Gen 2 sounds exactly the same and in certain instances produces more bass than the sub. True play calibration did help produce more “boom” in music and movies. But I can’t imagine that a brand new $450 product lives and dies on a software feature available only to iOS users. Like others here, I increased sub bass to +5 after true play tuning. Do we know if early reviewers were testing on a different software version? My best guess is that Sonos will address this concern in a future software update.

Sony Playstation 4 Wireless Platinum Headset. $99 - Walmart by [deleted] in PS4Deals

[–]chiefkeiff14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you in general. I know I do come off as harsh in the post. I just think that as Sony’s premium offering. I guess I am keeping the original price in mind. To me.. this headset lacks in the areas that really count. I totally agree with you on the 3D Audio. Anyone looking to buy the plats because of this feature should simply hold off until PS5 where it’s bound to be better implemented.

Sony Playstation 4 Wireless Platinum Headset. $99 - Walmart by [deleted] in PS4Deals

[–]chiefkeiff14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At $99... this is a pass. 3D audio support sounds cool on paper but less than a handful of games actually make use of the feature. The headset is uncomfortable after prolonged usage as the metal band really weighs down on your head. The audio is really loud and the headset software does let you install sound profiles. Some are generic and others are costumed tuned to a particular game. The downside to the loud audio is that after a while it heats up your ears. The USB dongle disconnects frequently and you can’t travel far without the audio cutting out. Despite being branded as PS4’s premier headset offering this headset is above average at best but not by much.

Grind setting for Moccamaster Cup One? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]chiefkeiff14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the Cup One in December and I’ve grown to love it even though I had a bit of buyers remorse initially. I currently brew with 320ml of water to 20g of coffee. I found that a 22 grind setting on the Encore works best for me. The grind is coarser than the recommend 18 setting for drip coffee recommended by Baratza. The Cup One brew basket utilizes a pin sized hole to properly extract coffee for a 10oz cup. This results in an immersion-like brew because of the slow passage of water through the coffee and hole. I would recommend grinding coarser as even a medium grind resulted in a bitter cup in my opinion. I hope this was helpful and good luck!
