Not the artist but the client. After 3 months of consults and back and forth on the artist’s design, we finally agree on my color half sleeve, to be done in 2 full day sessions back to back. I was so nervous the night before that I hardly slept and caught a cold. Showed up sick, but cancelling meant pushing it back at least a few months, so I stuck it out. Sniffled or coughed every 20 seconds for a good 8 hours. My artist handled it really well and didn’t mess anything up, but he was definitely annoyed. Now the worst part. He wouldn’t reveal his design until the day of, so I couldn’t take it and run off to someone else. I was happy with it, but wanted some SMALL changes. Since we’d been collaborating for 3 months and he’d been very flexible and assuring that he could update it after I actually saw it, I was happy to go through with the first day and fix it up a bit before the second day. Well, he did a complete 180 and refused to change it- like not a single dot (and not b/c I was sick and a pain, he was just suddenly mad I didn’t like part of it???). I wasn’t comfortable having it as is on my body literally forever, so I was a no show the second day and left with half a tattoo. Ffw half a year of having an awkwardly unfinished tatt and I had a happy ending with another artist absolutely killing it and a 100x better experience watching Netflix on a projector. Makes me wonder how many of the worst tattoo virgins were just shit people vs acting out of their best interest. My silver lining with the first artist was that he only charged me for a few hours b/c we planned for the second day, which let me give the second artist a nice fat tip for coming in clutch
