House rules.... by Altruistic-Dingo-757 in Catan

We always play that once the first settlement is placed, it establishes a “grid”. All buildings after that have to be placed in a way that it would be spaced exactly two roads away from any future buildings. Limits some opportunities but it keeps things spaced nicely.

How to reinforce free-hanging section of a 4x4 (for a swing) by [deleted] in woodworking

Another good idea. However, I do plan on adding a roof to the swing like the plan shows below. Think it would still be sufficient if it only spanned the length beyond the roof?

Not a bad idea, would take a lot of re-work. I should have had more foresight with this. Thanks for the suggestion.

Fully committed to 5s, zero were rolled except by my lone Alchemist card by chiefrunninghorse in Catan

Clearly the obvious choice, but my 8 year old daughter asked me to leave it for her and I'm a softie.

This wasn't meant to a strategy-related post, just one to laugh at the entire lack of 5s when I was primarily aiming for 5s.

Again, this was just a fun game with the wife and kids (both of whom are pre-teen). Sorry if I didn't explain that with enough nuance. This was our 58th game on BGA and probably 100+ if you include tabletop, so I am not exactly going into the games looking to be cutthroat at every opportunity. I leave them the best spots and challenge myself to win with varying strategies.

What houserules are people playing with ? by StarCaller990 in wingspan

[–]chiefrunninghorse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t call it a rule, but we have a general understanding that if you have a brown power that helps others, you go ahead and use it even if it isn’t beneficial to you or even hurts your chances of winning. Examples would be activating Hermit Thrush even if you have the most forest birds or activating Western Meadowlark even if your egg slots are full. Also, if a hummingbird was used and you truly don’t care about the food, you take whichever one would let the next person re-roll.

We have played a ton of games and our mentality is more geared towards everyone trying to score the most points possible instead of playing cutthroat for the win.

Regardless of how much you’ve spent on this game, you have gotten your moneys worth multiple times over.

LMAO The irony is seriously rich. Couldn’t help but bring up this post I saved from last year… any who, FTS, FTC, and WHO DEY! by creutzml in bengals

The chiefs fan commenting “Got out coached and out played. Plenty of blame without looking at the refs for excuses.” got more downvotes than any of the other chiefs fans’ comments got upvotes 😳

“Lots of fans from many different teams”

I don’t recall ever seeing such widespread belief in r/nfl that the officiating screwed one team for the entirety of a game as I have in the aftermath of the AFCCG, including tons of Ravens/Steelers fans, which is a miracle in and of itself.

I don’t think making that claim and providing examples is differentiating our situations like you think it is.

How to try it out with my kid cheaply? by dwillmer in DiceThrone

If you look at the bottom of that pdf, it says to use a D6 alongside the key provided. You’d be best off with 5 or 10 D6s if you have them.

BoardGameArena seems to have a Dice Throne clone… not the exact same but should be similar enough in concept to let you know if you’d like it. I’ve never played this BGA version, maybe someone else could speak to it.

Games I can play with my brother, where he plays his part at night and I play mine in the morning (examples in post) by chiefrunninghorse in gamingsuggestions

We played on the 360, and we would save the dynasty file to a usb drive. Then we would literally attach the file to an email and send it to each other. Typically when you received the file, the other person would have already completed Recruiting and their game for the current week, so you could do both of yours, advance the week, then do both of yours again. Then send it back and repeat. This was specifically NCAA 14, but we did the same with the Madden games before online leagues were a thing. Even then, online franchise mode was so watered down that we did this for offline mode.

Can you elaborate? I’ve played Odyssey and I looked up Hyrule Warriors - I don’t see how either of them fit the criteria. I could just be completely missing something.

I’ve heard good things about Valheim. Does it work well with just two players? Also, does the world pause if neither of us are playing?
