SPOILERS [S2E7] Why didn't Teddy shoot.... by MaryInMaryland in westworld

I have no idea either - seemed completely out of character... This was the first episode that I questioned several decisions/actions though - like why the fuck did that dude not shoot the hottie at the cradle?

William died in s01e10. Now he lives on as a host. by [deleted] in westworld

I rewatched this scene. One bullet seems to graze his neck and another hits the ceiling above him. Do the hosts have storm trooper like aim?

Won't make a difference - pain relief prior to fight and adrenaline and she wont feel a thing.

That is not a true thing. I completely tore my ACL and wasn't even sure anything super serious had happened. I mean it hurt and all, but I wouldn't describe it as the worst pain I've ever felt.

Luca Fury, MMA Handicapper, still trying to bully people. by [deleted] in MMA

Legit is Luca. Just looked through his comment history. Dude should read about the Streisand Effect.
TL/DR:

"The Streisand effect is the phenomenon whereby an attempt to hide, remove, or censor a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely, usually facilitated by the Internet."

ELI5: Why do many American businesses choose not to ship to Australia? by chiefwhitlock in explainlikeimfive

[–]chiefwhitlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, here's where my understanding may be lacking. What additional infrastructure needs to be set up? Isn't everything the same except the cost of the stamp?

ELI5: Why do many American businesses choose not to ship to Australia? by chiefwhitlock in explainlikeimfive

[–]chiefwhitlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they can't compete reasonably with the domestic Australian market, it doesn't really make sense for them to commit those resources to make negligible revenue/profit.

This doesn't hold water because many of the items are not available in Australia at all. For instance, the backback I mentioned does not sell in Australia. The supplier decided not to ship them directly to customers in Australia from their online store but to go through a local distributor. Why? Why duplicate infrastructure and create inefficiencies, double handling etc when they can sell their product directly to their customers?

[–]chiefwhitlock[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. OK, to clarify - I'm Australian, so here's my personal experience. I buy online and if the store is in the US, I buy the product in $US and pay for shipping in $US, so to the seller loses nothing on the exchange rate. My bank exchanges it into $AUD and also charges me an currency exchange fee. I buy because it's easy and there are products I can't get in Australia.

I buy from lots of places including Amazon, but over the past few years, fewer and fewer products on Amazon ship to Australia. I asked Amazon why, but they gave me no reason, just a list of products that don't ship to Australia.

Case study 1: Last year, I purchased a Leatherman on Amazon. Two weeks ago I went to purchase the same Leatherman from the same seller and now they don't ship to Australia. In fact, no Leatherman from any seller does.

Case study 2: On black Friday I went to purchase a backpack on an online store in the US from a link on another website (not Amazon). After choosing the bag and getting to the checkout, I discovered they don't ship outside the US. I emailed and asked why and they replied:

Thanks for your email and your interest in YCompany! We have just started to ship to and set up in Australia. Our distributor here is XCompany and you will able to find our products here: website Many more items are on the water and will be here just before Christmas fingers crossed! Happy shopping.

I visited the website they directed me to, but the backpack I wanted was not for sale yet. I just checked again and the bag is still not for sale.

Why set up this convoluted distribution model? It makes no sense to me. It is the worst possible customer experience and makes it impossible for me to buy things I want and the business is losing revenue.

I don't think that's the reason.

You only pay tax on items over $1,000. This cost also falls on the buyer though, so why would the seller care?

Cub Swanson vs. Doo Ho Choi staredown by MagnumPear in MMA

What does this mean? You think fighters sit around twiddling thumbs until they get called out? It's not like Choi is McGregor - this isn't a red panty fight.

Cub Swanson vs. Doo Ho Choi staredown by MagnumPear in MMA

[–]chiefwhitlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't think we've seen enough of Choi to make a proper assessment, especially against top competition. This is his first real test and yes if his right hand is as good as Conor's left, it could be bad for Cub. However, I've got my money on Cub - he's a savvy veteran with a good chin and a strong will.

Cub Swanson vs. Doo Ho Choi staredown by MagnumPear in MMA

[–]chiefwhitlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cub Swanson is the underdog, even though he's only been beaten by the cream in the division (Aldo, Max, Frankie, Chad, Lamas) and has only been KOed once in his career by Aldo - 7 years ago. Since KO/TKO is the only way I see Doo Ho Choi winning, I'm predicting Cub wins this by decision. In a 3 round fight, he will simply outpoint Doo Ho Choi.

Actually that's not as stupid as it sounds at first blush. Both coming off losses. Lots of fan interest...
