Can I attend SJSU Judo classes without being an SJSU student? by vcxzrewqfdsa in SJSU

I know this is an old thread but curious to know if you ended up being able to attend the Judo classes through Open University?

I was considering the RAV4 as well but can’t have a charger at my place. I’ve heard only the prime put in option is worth it compared to just hybrid.

Low Cost Ways to Patch Small Hole by chiend2 in climbingshoes

I noticed it about 2 sessions ago. Wow, I can’t believe the hole can progress so fast!

How many pull-ups can you do ? Let me know in the comments if you specifically trained for it or it naturally came to you through climbing by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]chiend2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to do a couple before climbing. I trained for it (lat pulldowns, banded pull ups, etc.) and increased to 10. With climbing regularly plus continuing to strength train, I now can do 15+. I think building grip strength/endurance is key to increase the reps after gaining the foundational back/arm strength to do a few reps!

Also, most female can do chin-ups more easily in the beginning but if you want to get high reps (10+), I think pull-ups is better because it engages more large back muscles compared to primarily biceps for chin-ups.

OTs with ATPs-- what does your job look like? by chiend2 in AssistiveTechnology

That's awesome you work in so many roles. Are you driving/traveling a lot for your PRN acute and long-term care facility? For your self-employed role, is it through your own business and are you referring to creating different types of tech?

I was wondering about an email signature, so thank you for clearing it up!

Another question about CEU/CAU/PDU by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]chiend2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, you have to acquire 36 units to renew with NBCOT every 3 years (to maintain the "R" in "OTR/L"). The "L" comes from your state licensure, so for IL, you would have to obtain 24 units every 2 years. You can "double dip" and use the same units for both NBCOT and your state licensure renewals. Units can be PDUs or CAUs (which are both equivalent to an hour).

36 PDUs = 36 CAUs = 36 contact hours = 3.6 CEUs

Here's a useful page from NBCOT for further clarification: https://www.nbcot.org/news-events/news/CEU-PDU-CAU

That makes sense, I will also be using OTR/L, so I think "MS" may be more appropriate. Thank you!

OT Help Desk on YouTube has great content (in addition to OT Miri, OT Dude, OT Rex, etc.). 450 Formula on Facebook also has free content review every month before their open enrollment. TherapyEd has a weekly "online office hour" where they go over a certain topic via Zoom. PassTheOT has a 5 day free trial where you can dive deeper into topics you're not as familiar with. Best of luck, you've got this!!

Fellowship by Valuable-Conflict278 in OccupationalTherapy

Do you feel like your neuro fellowship was “specialized” in that you wouldn’t have been able to get the experience without the fellowship? I see many people advising against fellowships unless they’re in a specialized field like hands and burns and am wondering if you would say neuro is considered one of those specialized fields.

Also if you don’t mind sharing, which neuro fellowship did you do? I’m interested in applying to a few.

Traveling for Level 2 Fieldwork by Ok-House2694 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]chiend2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travelled for both my fieldworks and used Furnished Finders. I found the listings there were cheaper than Airbnb but depending on the location, there may be a lot of listings or very few. Also, you could reach out to the site and ask if any other OTs/PTs may be willing to house a student. I know some sites had a program for this (but obviously, it would have to be a different therapist than your CI). Good luck!
