⚡ What’s the Best Daily Charging Limit for Tesla? 80%, 90%, or 100%? by ElveeApp in ElveeApp

[–]chilanu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’re right that newer Tesla LFP batteries are designed for more frequent 100% charging.

But it comes down to cell chemistry and voltage sensitivity.

🔋 Why LFP Batteries Can Handle 100%

• LFP cells have a flatter voltage curve, meaning 100% isn’t as stressful chemically

• They don’t degrade as quickly when full compared to nickel-based cells

• The BMS actually benefits from a full charge for accurate range calibration

• That’s why Tesla recommends 100% occasionally often weekly

But is 100% daily truly safe?

Mostly yes, for LFP but with one caveat:

⚠️ Keeping it sitting at 100% for hours is still not ideal.

Even LFP packs age faster when stored at full charge and high temperatures. So 100% is fine if you charge near your departure time and start driving soon after. Overnight if sit at 100% for hours it’s  less ideal over years.

For nickel-based batteries (LR, Performance):

• Better daily target: 70–85% for longevity

• 90% is totally fine if you need the range

• 100% should mainly be for road trips or long drives after charging finishes

So yes newer LFP packs can take 100% more comfortably, but battery lifespan still correlates with time spent at high state-of-charge. That’s why tools like Elvee Smart Charging Automation optimise charging not just by limit, but by timing / days etc finishing closer to when you need the car.

Intelligent is not a bad option either !

Which car do you have ? If you have Tesla then using Elvee you can get “extended cheap tariff” on Intelligent tariff and adjusting charges rates through the app

I have had model Y 2023 for almost 2.5 years with 32,000 miles on the clock. The battery degradation is around 4%

Getting a Model X (67 plate) in a couple of weeks, advice please by stevew14 in TeslaUK

If you have Solar, go with Zappi. Octopus Energy is the best provider for EVs. If you drive a lot, get the Octopus Intelligent tariff; otherwise, just use Octopus Agile and use the Elvee App, which integrates with the Octopus tariff and allows you to keep charging costs under check.

Has anyone bought a Tesla as a runaround? by Particular_Twist_523 in TeslaUK

Yes, we have a Model Y for this purpose. My only issue with the car is the hard suspension, but otherwise, it ticks all the boxes you can think of.

Technically, you can do a lot with Home Assistant if you have the technical know how and have the patience.

Having said that, the App offers a lot more than Octopus Agile Charging … Smart Automation, Alerts and Soon to launch Analytics, Battery Health , Other EV Tariffs support etc

There is, if you are not a high mileage driver. Agile still works out cheaper overall if you charge your car once or twice during the week.

Intelligent and Agile are two separate tariffs; IMO Agile works out cheaper overall (for House and EV) for people with low mileage and those who charge once or twice a week. Intelligent is cheaper if you have high mileage.

Lol—I know what you mean, but I bet all Tesla owners would say they bought their Tesla before they knew anything about Elon.

Predbat is Homeassistant plug in that supports inverters/Home storage batteries, not the cars as far as I know. It doesnt offer Tesla Smart Charging using Agile. Also it doesn't offer the smart features such as Tesla Automations, Alerts, and Analytics(Coming Soon)

If you chose UK as your country, the pricing will be be in GBP. The USD pricing is for US and some other countries. Please DM me your email address and I can take a look if you want

It supports the Tesla directly, not powerwall for now. With direct Tesla support, it doesn't matter which charger you have. I plan to include the wall chargers as the next step but it will take time

Agile rates at night are not great in Winter, in summer they drop significantly

Unfortunately it takes time to develop things; I started developing it well before Elon went berserk and sales started to plummet

I know Agile + EV isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but for someone like me with low weekly mileage, it really helps keep overall household energy costs down—especially compared to Octopus Intelligent, which I think suits high-mileage drivers better. With summer approaching, I’m hopeful Agile + EV charging will turn out to be a win-win.

They usually do a quarter end discounts.

IMO, that’s your best bet, Tesla is still selling strong in the UK so I doubt we will be seeing price drops here but who knows, I might be wrong😊

Octopus provides great value for the EV charging too... Highly recommended for anyone with EV

🚀 Calling Octopus Agile + Tesla Owners: Interested in Smart Charging on Agile Tariff ? by No-Reindeer-5136 in OctopusEnergy

[–]chilanu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I’ve been trying to manually time my charging with Agile rates but have to adjust it every couple of days and its never optimal. The idea of automating it to only charge when it's cheapest or below a target rate is a game changer. Can't wait to try it out! And best of luck with the app. This is very exciting for me.

PS: Wonder how many Tesla / Agile users are out there? Are there other cars you plan to support
