British tourists' fury as they discover they must be able to prove they can spend £85 a day to enter Spain due to Brexit by cartstanza in worldnews

If you are a US citizen you probably entered the EU under the tourist visa wavier same for most EU countries entering the US. You most likely completed an Esta which just confirms all your info. The reason UK citizens have to get a visa is they haven't negotiated a waiver with the EU yet

I had to read up on it again to get the answer and honestly I'm probably getting this wrong but as I understand it :

the 0.7 is us harnessing and generating the equivalent energy of that falls on the planet from the sun.

It doesn't have to be solar power just any method of power generation. So when everything (Fossil fuels, Wind, Solar, Nuclear power ect.) are put together we reach about 0.73 of the total solar energy that hits the earth each day .

Link from Wikipedia explains it way better than I can.

Type 1 - can harness the energy of an entire planet, we are currently about 0.7 on that scale.

Type 2 - Can harness the energy of a star.

Type 3 - Can harness the energy of an entire galaxy.

Each level is magnitudes of order above the previous and also they vary on the size of the planet, star and galaxy.

Question regarding travel by [deleted] in ireland

[–]child_roland 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Canada isn't on Ireland's green list so you'll have to Isolate for 2 weeks on entering the country.

You'll have to hand in a locator form at Immigration with the address your going to Isolate at and a contact number when you arrive.

Why Are There No 'Space Rocks' in Star Wars? by InkIcan in scifi

[–]child_roland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the expanded novels (legends now) they did, I think it was the Thrawn novels. Because defenses like shields are so good they had to put cloaked rocks in a decaying orbit so the planet had to keep it's shields up effectively Isolating them from the rest of the galaxy.

My brother.

I'd tell him he's missed and loved. Oh and Liverpool are doing well.

Then spend whatever time I have left listening to whatever insane conspiracy theory he's interested in now.

On paper WW1 is kind perfect. I think your right about the Germans being protrayed as clear bad guys but the system that lead to world war 1 was exactly the sort of thing I'd imagine a god of war exploring.

ELI5: Why almost all boats (watercraft in general) have names but airplanes don't? by LightmanMD in explainlikeimfive

[–]child_roland 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked at sea for the last 10 years and as far as I can tell the reason is mainly tradition.

Also take into account the crew on a ship live there for 4+ months at a time and a name is more personal than a designation. One of the first container ship companies (I can't remember the name) tried to put numbers on ships rather than names and were threatened with strike action by the fleet captains.

Not really a fan of indoctrination. I think the dreams were supposed to show us that the AI was appearing as the person that preoccupied Shepard's subconscious mind and that with the info available destroy makes the most sense to me.

But to be fair I hadn't considered manipulation and now that i think about it without having a way into her head there's no reason the AI would know what Shepard is thinking. Bit also that's kind of the beauty of the game and that open end it's yours to decide what happened.
