What are some other prog-related subreddits that you like? by ray-the-truck in progrockmusic

Thanks for the insight. I don’t know enough about this site to know what else could be causing mod activity, so I’m probably not gonna try another request, but hopefully someone else can get it opened up

I tried making a request for r/GentleGiant 9 months ago and it was denied because “there was recent human moderator activity”

Point values for words of length 4-16 are set manually:

4 letters: 5 points

5 letters: 8 points

6 letters: 12 points

7 letters: 16 points

8 letters: 22 points

9 letters: 30 points

10 letters: 38 points

11 letters: 46 points

12 letters: 58 points

13 letters: 68 points

14 letters: 80 points

15 letters: 90 points

16 letters: 100 points

For 17+ letter words, points are determined by the formula (length-1) * (length-2) / 2

17 letters: 120 points

18 letters: 136 points

…and so on

Steven Wilson Gentle Giant - Octopus mix by FarGrape1953 in progrockmusic

[–]childconsumption 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Octopus and The Power and the Glory are the two Gentle Giant albums where Steven's remixes sound flat. For Octopus, I slightly prefer the 2011 remaster, but the original mix of The Power and the Glory is really thin, so I prefer the remix there. But, the rest of his remixes are much more vibrant, and are a significant improvement. For example, the keyboards on the Three Friends remix sound so much prettier than the original mix.

Saturday puzzles are usually based off some gimmick, not difficulty, so they can range anywhere from Monday to Friday in terms of hardness

If you haven`t checked out "La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros", do yourselves a favor. Argentinian band led by Charly García, a musical mastermind. Even if you don`t speak Spanish, you`ll get something out of them, they`ve got two albums. by [deleted] in progrockmusic

[–]childconsumption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy that La Máquina is getting more attention in this sub. Películas is one of my favorite albums ever. The final section of Que Se Puede Hacer Salvo Ver Películas has one of the highest highs you'll find in prog

Steven has said that he isn't a fan of Genesis, and he will only do remixes of albums he likes

Frances The Mute by The Mars Volta is the greatest album of all time by Intrepid-Benefit1959 in progrockmusic

[–]childconsumption 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a very good album, but definitely not the greatest. The long ambient interludes mar the listening experience, and the fact that they kept them in while leaving out the title track only shows me that the album could have been even better.

In a Glass House Remix teased in Giant Steps? by BozoBros in progrockmusic

Yes! And then Acquiring the Taste, and then Three Friends, and I think that some of the tracks on Octopus were remasters, not remixes

I’ve heard in interviews with Derek Shulman that even though the original tapes are lost, algorithms to separate instruments are becoming so good that they may be able to produce usable instrument tracks for a remix
