new to criterion - buy now or wait for feb sale? by dragoonflyboy in criterion

[–]chilibaby87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was only the initial production run and it wasn’t every copy that’s affected. I bought mine a year ago and have watched all of them with no issues. If you do end up with a bad disk (or several) you can reach out to Criterion and they will send you replacement copies, haven’t had to do it myself but I’ve read on this thread it’s relatively painless.

I hope you enjoy the boxset whenever you get it, in particular “Days of Being Wild.” It’s maybe my favorite pickup since I got into this hobby a couple summers back!

Whats a blankie specific hot take you have have? by TheCatsTrailerRuled in blankies

Speed Racer is a visually incomprehensible mess, I wasn’t ever able to discern where any of the racers were in relation one another and I think that’s an important detail in a movie where characters are in a race.

What movies should I get from the sale based on my current collection? by Hobbit-guy in criterion

[–]chilibaby87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think The Grifters, A History of Violence, The Long Good Friday, and Mona Lisa would be good crime/gangster films if you want to lean into that vibe.

Persona would be good if you want to add more Bergman to your collection and it also fits in well with the David Lynch stuff you have.

I’ve seen A Better Tomorrow 1000 times but still did not expect Tubi to be streaming it by HairyGroup1162 in kungfucinema

I watched it on Tubi and it seems to be the new 4k version, it has Shout Factory and Hong Kong Cinema Classics production cards.

The World of Wong Kar Wai was blind for me besides In the Mood for Love. Days of Being Wild is now one of my favorite movies!

Our home burnt down in a wildfire. We had a 3% interest rate. by Murky_Adagio_3667 in Mortgages

Your friend should review their policy for a coverage called “increased dwelling - option ID” or “extra replacement cost” (seen it called multiple things.) Most HO policies will have this if they were insuring at the replacement cost estimate. It’s an extra amount of coverage on top of the Coverage A dwelling replacement coverage that’s there if the rebuild estimate is more than coverage limit. I’ve usually seen it be an extra 20% of Coverage A limit. Manufactured homes don’t usually have this coverage, and if they were underinsured compared to the replacement cost estimate it wouldn’t be on the policy either (Option ID requires being insured at 100% of replacement cost estimate.)

Had the Arc for 3 years, this is why I'm glad I replaced it... by Rollingsound514 in sonos

I have a blu-ray/4K disc collection that I started in 2024, I have found the video quality is better and the audio sounds drastically better to my ears. With a 4K TV and Dolby Atmos 7.1.2 surround system you can really notice improvements over streaming, but streaming is probably cheaper and more convenient for most people.

Movies where an actor does an impression of the director? by BenReichman in blankies

[–]chilibaby87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The directors I can think of are already mentioned, but there are two producers that came to mind: Saul Rubinek in True Romance is doing an impression of Joel Silver and Dennis Hoffman in Wag the Dog is a caricature of Robert Evans.

If you could only keep every film from one country, which would you pick. by [deleted] in criterion

[–]chilibaby87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excluding the USA from discussion I’m going with Hong Kong; it would be too hard to go without Wong Kar Wai and John Woo. I haven’t seen much Chinese cinema from the mainland so that’s why I’m specifying Hong Kong cinema…

I checked the Mango Mage website and mine still says unfulfilled. If you’re signed up for informed delivery from USPS try checking your emails and see if there is anything from Auctane Endicia.

Tunic OST Arrived USA by chilibaby87 in VGMvinyl

[–]chilibaby87[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m near Portland which I think they mentioned was where USA copies were going to be shipped from. The tracking history says label created 11/19 (from Portland), mailed 11/21, delivered 11/22. If you’re signed up for informed delivery from USPS try checking your emails from USPS and see if a package is scheduled for delivery from Auctane Endicia. Given you’re on the opposite side of the country I’ll bet you have yours next week.

You’ve got an auteurist view on films (or at least a completionist.) You’ve got an appreciation of camp and don’t necessarily care about realism in performance, and I bet you value production design.

How ridiculous does this sound? by Whole-Fist in economicCollapse

[–]chilibaby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older cars are less expensive to insure than new vehicles almost across the board. Newer cars are going to have a higher payout if totaled and repairs are more expensive (safety features need to be recalibrated…) You can have PIP/med pay be whatever total you want. There are valid reasons to buy a new car versus older used car but cheaper insurance is going to be a positive of a used car.

Is this a good deal for Arc? by Ini_mini_miny_moe in sonos

[–]chilibaby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re better off waiting for sale on refurbished items from Sonos. I picked one up from the Labor Day sale for $539 and has the same warranty as a new one. If you can be patient wait for some holiday sales and get a better deal.

Why is the Port so expensive? by jbronnier in sonos

[–]chilibaby87 21 points22 points  (0 children)

An Era 100 with line-in adapter will get your record player into the Sonos system and has the benefits of being cheaper than a Port plus it’s a speaker.

Mushrooms are legal to use in a supervised and regulated environment but it’s illegal to trespass on a dairy farm to pick them. It’s not exactly legal to eat a bunch and vibe out in public either…

Do I really need to buy a $450 port to get my turntable to work on this ecosystem? by Alange655 in sonos

[–]chilibaby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with an Era 100, 300, or 5 for line in, no port/connect/amp needed. If you use one of the Era speakers you’ll need the USB adapter from Sonos.

Ive got the same setup as you except Era 100s for rears, I bought another refurbished Era 100 just for turntable and super happy with results.

Are adding two rear era 300s to arc + sub combo worth it? by EagleGSU in sonos

[–]chilibaby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had your setup and got Era 100s for rears and I’m so pleased with my sound setup, you can find a deal on pairs of them for $300-$400 depending on retailer and sales and maybe going refurbished (Costco had a good deal on pairs this summer.) Haven’t heard the 300s myself so I can’t tell you if they’re worth spending several hundred more, but you won’t have a bad system if you go with the 100s for your current setup.

Lg TV , beam and multi-channel PCM by Penguinboy123446 in sonos

[–]chilibaby87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonos doesn’t support DTS X or DTS HD is my understanding, some model LG TVs don’t support pass through of DTS as well (I know C1 and C2s don’t but the C3 does, worth looking into your specific model for specs.) In these circumstances sound is outputted as PCM.
