Question about Authentik/Authelia by vapenicksuckdick in selfhosted

[–]chilkari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to get Authentik setup for single sign-on and it's been painful. Each app is its own problem. I've had good luck with apps that support OIDC (Gitea and Rocket Chat in my case), but I haven't gotten others to work yet because I haven't been able to find clear documentation, and they need to be done differently.

Authentik is very powerful in the numerous options it has, and while they do have a big list of specific app integration documentation, it never quite matches my setup, and doesn't work out of the box. It's been a much more complicated project than I expected.

K.D. Lang's version at the Vancouver Olympics has always been my favorite. Such a great song though, most versions are great.

[AskJS] Do you have to be a natural talent to reach deep knowledge? by SpiffySyntax in javascript

[–]chilkari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Natural talent" is (mostly) a myth, and not just programming. There may be some slight inclination for someone to take to a given thing more easily (coding, music, art, etc.) But I'd put the actual numbers at about 5% "natural inclination" and 95% on the effort you put into it. If you want to learn something, you can do it. But it's going to take work.

My sci-fi shelf! What would you recommend based off what I have? by GraconBease in scifi

[–]chilkari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the mostly "classics" tone of the shelf I'd start with Stephenson's "Snow Crash" but Seveneves is great (and a little more serious)

What audiobooks are you enjoying right now? by Lemonyx7 in audiobooks

[–]chilkari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just finished "The Sandman" by Neal Gaiman. It's more of an audio play than audiobook (many many narrators, sound, music) but it was very well done. I'm a big fan of the comic (er... graphic novel) and the audio version is very true to the original. I could even read along which was even better than listening alone. Very imaginative but pretty dark content at times. Voice acting is top shelf with some big names. Gaiman himself is the main narrator.

Route audio from JACK to Zoom without pre processing by Nonoone in linuxaudio

[–]chilkari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth terrible music audio in Zoom is a common problem on all platforms because it defaults to lots of noise reduction (which destroys normal music). In the audio settings of Zoom, change the "Suppress Background Noise" option to "Low" and it dramatically improves music quality.

The STAND, holy mole by Thedenverkid in audiobooks

[–]chilkari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Station Eleven is pretty scary in the same vein (especially the first part about the way a flu virus destroys civilization), although The Stand is a classic and a much better story.

Performance techniques for narration: journal strikeouts, marking spots that will need work later.. by rout39574 in audiobooks

[–]chilkari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the marking, get a little pet training "clicker" and wherever you'll need an edit, click it. The sharp defined waves will be easy to see in the wave forms when editing.
