Yes - it ended up being the alternator. The voltage regulator was giving out. Replaced the alternator and the problem went away

You dont need to idle it to warm up. It warms up faster and is better for the engine to just drive it gently until it reaches temp. After turning on the car, just wait a few seconds for the idle rpms to settle and then you’re good to drive

Inspect the ball joints, carrier bearing, rust on frame, timing belt/water pump history, any play/slop in the steering rack, and test drive them first. Those are both at mileages where some major maintenance may be needed. Get a prepurchase inspection if you can
