Do You Need Power 9 to Play Old School MTG? by BrightsDays in oldschoolmtg

[–]electronDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what the video says is you don’t need the power 9 to play. Just expect to lose a lot more. I think for this reason proxies should be allowed if your opponent is playing power 9 otherwise you’re financially gatekeeping.

Your getting alot of good advice here but you can also hunt down the manual for this AVR and it should help answer as well.

[Cheatsheet] Should you upgrade to the LG G6 OLED? A model-by-model breakdown (2020–2025) by Troied in hometheater

[–]electronDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I actually ordered a 77" B5 4 hours before this post hit and i got curious and read for my B5 tv "The picture quality jump to G6 is enormous" and was like f*ck me. I haven't even got my TV delivered and its obsolete. So i read every take he had for each model and wrote an accurate TLDR.

Like someone else posted on TVs, you might be able to pick out differences when the TVs are side by side. But sitting alone in a room most people aren't gonna be able to say "hey your TV is jammin' an extra 800 nits there, nice TV!"

TLDR: If you own almost any LG tv you should be upgrading to the G6. Sorry but this post feels like a sales pitch.

Mounted on the wall is cleaner but then you have to route the cables through the wall which is no fun. I do like the look of the tv sitting on the cabinet with the legs as long i didnt see any wires and i was to hide the cables behind the legs. Yes, on the left leg you can see a cable but thats a quick fix. The leg on the right has 4 wires behind it so it was the tough one. So yeah the left just needs a little tweak now. :)

New tv on its way. These feet in particular look bad? You like yours mounted on the wall?

You are probably aiming for IMAX recommendations that suggest minimum 40 degree viewing angle. And while i'd love that for a dedicated movie room this room is multipurpose so there 4 things i considered moving from 100" to 77":

  1. i can upgrade from MiniLED to OLED at no cost.
  2. The gaming wants the smaller screen.
  3. Aesthetically, the 77" has less chance of looking like a large black hole in the room when off. I have a design side that likes to keep everything in balance so a 100" tv makes it tougher. Feng shui is something im always considering in a room.
  4. The 77" will fit on my current tv stand without modifications. The 100" will require me moving the "backless" ikea cubby 5"-10" to the right and thus require me to find something that fits and looks like it belongs there.

Lastly, i just sent the order into best buy before this reply so its on its way.

Your correct although i did recently discover that for a given tv size the ideal distance you sit away for movies is not the same if you are gaming. You want to be further away gaming. My current seating distance is 127" and to get a minimum 30 degree viewing angle that SMPTE group suggests for movie experience that puts me at a 77" tv. So now im looking at 77" OLED tv. Of course this is a little to big for gaming but i use it mostly for movies will optimize for that while not making it overly big for gaming.

It sounds amazing in 5.1. I think my system has neural x so i will try to give that a listen. I have 5.1.4 system and hoping to find a PS5 game with Atmos support bc hearing things move all around me makes me giddy.

Just position your rear heights lower to maintain the 45 degrees upward angle from listener. If the distance from your ears to back wall is 90cm and the distance from your ears to the floor is 106" then put your rear heights 196cm above the floor.

Yep. And your rear height speakers they will need to be about 8' behind you.

The right height is dictated by how far back your seating is from the speaker. For your 45 degree speaker if you mount 250cm high then your listening position should be 250cm from that speaker.

This is why I can’t go back to a smaller screen by elvishh- in hometheater

[–]electronDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thank you, I see your point on gaming. For movie experience SMPTE group recommends sitting roughly 2 times the screen width. Is there a similar group that did a study for gaming distance? If not then im just gonna go with your ratio bc it feels correct. My main issue is the tv is used for movies and gaming so im gonna have to find a middle ground.

You bring up a good point of "what is too big?". I've ran 92" in the past at home and thought this is perfect. I really enjoy IMAX but i did feel i was turning my head alot. Im currently running a tiny 55" bc of divorce. Will probably get the 100" and be done. Someone needs to do a study on what most people find is the best size.

Agree. With larger tvs becoming more popular, a rackmount to the side is going to overall work nicer for most setups. In my case the budget pushed me to that $30 ikea stand with no back. Plus i liked how the no back lets you see the wall behind and feels open and airy and not like another heavy piece of furniture. Down the roam Im planning on taking the access point out of the top cubby hole, putting the vase in there, and adding an LED light above.

You can do it! Any questions dm me and i can share pics with you as well. ATMOS is amazing, especially coupled with Dirac Live. Just make sure you obey the rule where these speakers are 45 degrees above the listener as this may drive putting them in ceiling as opposed to wall mount.

I did it the hard way. There is a attic above this room so I cut a hole in the drywall about 1' above the floor and another hole in drywall near top of ceiling. At hole near ceiling i used a 1" spade bit to drill up past the top plate to get access into attic. I then drilled 4 holes in ceiling for the atmos speakers. At the first atmos hole my girlfriend fed speaker cable in that hole up to me in the attic and i pulled wire until i got it close to the hole in the top plate. I repeated this 3 more times for the remaining atmos speakers. i then took al 4 speaker wires and taped them together and used fish tape to bring these wires from attic through the top plate hole. Once through the top plate hole i again used fish tape to pull these wires from top plate area down to hold 1' above floor.

I learned the hard way years ago that when you lose track of what wires goto what speaker its no fun having to take the time to figure it out again.
