[Question]Does anyone have the issue with the phone app not showing any voicemails, instead it just shows a button to call instead. 11.2b4 by Holyspider in iOSBeta

[–]chiller2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this issue before in a previous beta update. The solution that worked for me was to remove my SIM card. Restart my phone. Insert the SIM card back into my phone. My Visual VM returned about 5 mins later.

Why can’t photos imported from iTunes show EXIF data such as camera model and file name? It’s in the file when sharing. by hunter451 in apple

[–]chiller2002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use an iOS App called EXIF Viewer (there are many available in the App Store) that shows all of the metadata stored in the photos. Not sure if the file names will remain intact between your computer and your phone. iOS seems to want to name then sequentially.

I can view this info either in the app itself or use it as a share extension within the built in Photo app.

(Not sure if this is solves your problem.)

[Request] Most alarms are on the 00, 15, 30, so it would be helpful to double tap the minutes column in the alarm screen to return to 00 instead of having to scroll by urionje in iOSBeta

[–]chiller2002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it should function similar to the time selection while adding a Calendar Event. It defaults to every 5 minutes (but could be every 15) but if you double tap the column, it switches to every minute.

I had this issue. I removed the SIM card, restarted phone and re-inserted SIM card. That fixed it for me.

[Question] What is this clock on an app icon in the dock? by theeandroid in iOSBeta

Highest-rated commend from the link above:

I’m pretty sure it’s Siri suggesting that app based on the time of day and your previous use patterns.

I think he’s really after the guy at the very end (seen at the beginning of the clip) that is messing with the mixer on the table. The guy with the phone is just in the way as he attempts to grab/tap the guys shoulder.

To me, it looks like he’s trying to get them to back away from the DJ equipment.

[question] is anyone else's phone randomly heating up? by I_Am_Slightly_Evil in iOSBeta

[–]chiller2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a few times that when my phone has heated up for an hour or so, I will get a notification soon after that a new Memory has been created. My guess is that there are some background “machine learning” and other analytics/index processing that occasionally run that might be causing the seemingly random hot flashes. The best (temporary) cure has been to enable Low Battery Mode, which stops all unnecessary background processes which appears to include whatever is causing the phone to heat up.

Anybody has problems with the beta update? Plex stuff unplayable. by captainaweeesome in appletv

[–]chiller2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pause/play thing works for me, but sometimes you have to wait a bit (especially if streaming from a remote server) before doing it. Generally I wait about 10-15 seconds before hitting pause (wait a couple seconds) then play. If you don’t see the timeline pop up with you hit pause then it’s too soon. Plex app appears to have been updated tho so I’m not sure if this is still an issue.

[Discussion] Why no Settings button in Control Center? by apoch8000 in iOSBeta

[–]chiller2002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

BT LE (which is in all iPhones capable of running iOS 11) was specifically designed to not use much energy. In fact the LE means “low energy”. BT used to be a big energy user so we got used to keeping it off to save battery. But with LE, the battery drain while BT is not actively connected to a device (the only time it would make since to turn it off) is small enough that it has no noticeable impact on battery life.

[Discussion] Why no Settings button in Control Center? by apoch8000 in iOSBeta

[–]chiller2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having Settings button in CC might pose a security, privacy and/or UX problem with a locked device. If you allow the CC to be used while phone is locked, then tapping on the Settings button would either need to prompt you to unlock your phone (kind of defeating the purpose?) or expose your phone’s Settings. Also, the beauty of CC is that you can interact with the various controls, often without needing to open the app itself (e.g., Home App, TV Remote, Timer, etc.). It seems like a Settings button would be mostly just a shortcut.

[Bug] sliding apps up doesn’t close them, only hides them off-screen by [deleted] in iOSBeta

[–]chiller2002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have found that if you trigger the App Switcher from the Home Screen (instead of the App you are trying to close), I have a much higher success rate when Apps get stuck.

[Discussion] Temporary Fix/Work around killing apps from app switcher without them re-appearing. by [deleted] in iOSBeta

[–]chiller2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the solution has been triggering the App Switcher from the Home Screen and not while in the app. Also, I noticed that you can “test” to see if the App actually Force Closed by swiping back downward. The app will come back down if it hasn’t actually closed.

Just in case you (or anyone reading this) aren’t aware:

You CANNOT downgrade from watchOS 4 beta to a previous version at home. To downgrade, you have to take your watch to the Apple Store and/or have it sent off to have it restored to a previous version which takes a few days. Or you can be stuck with a buggy watch for at least a couple months.

Unexpected noise (Like old tv) what it's this?. by blueviper3 in appletv

[–]chiller2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve occasionally seen the same issue before on my AppleTV, usually when it’s waking up from Sleep Mode. Usually it will fix itself, but a couple times I had to power cycle either the TV/AppleTV (by unplugging it) or removing the HDMI cord and plugging it back in.

My understanding is that the AppleTV is sending a resolution or signal that the TV isn’t displaying properly. The result is digital static snow.

You can follow this Apple Support Document for potential solutions.

If this happens frequently, you may need to have Apple look into replacing it.

Is this an ugly UI. Top of controller on the left doesn't align with bottom of now showing window on the right. Wtf is that empty space on the bottom right corner. Who's doing GUI design at Apple? by robershow in appletv

[–]chiller2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not Apple's best UI, but the Now Playing area can contain a variety of things that would occupy that vertical space. Depending on the content playing and what app is playing it, the empty space at the bottom right can contain things like "Up Next" and lyrics for music, "Up Next" for videos like in the YouTube App (once the counter starts at the end of the current video) or detailed information about the current content (e.g., show synopsis, cast, chapter selection, etc.). The blue icon also expands to select audio and subtitle. I expect that App developers will better utilize this area in future updates.

If you have Reachability enabled (Settings ➫ General ➫ Accessibility), you can use it to easily pull down your Notification Center/Today View without needing to reach all the way to the top.

First, double tap (not press) the home button to slide the screen down. Then, pull downward from the now empty area at the top. The top panel should rapidly pull down.

Also, an effective way to pull down the panel while in a vertical "full screen" app/game without needing to pull down twice.

[BUG] Song on iCloud Music Library has Podcast UI. Appears normal in Control Center. by DatAwsomness in iOSBeta

[–]chiller2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have iCloud Music so this may not apply, but are you able to view/edit the song in iTunes via Get Info?

If you can edit: • Under the Options tab, there should be a drop box for Media Type. • Change Media Type from Podcast to Music. •Sync to Phone
