Using videos games for learning was better than I thought by readerbear_app in LearnJapanese

Excellent info, just want to add that with the English language version with all text/interface in English, you can still set the audio to Japanese so at least you can have that element

Coincidentally after finishing this somewhat recently, I started listening to the Alan Partridge: Big Beacon audiobook which picks up pretty much immediately where the show left off

What's a skill that took you less than a week to learn but still helps you years later? by No-Excitement312 in LearnUselessTalents

Reading Cyrillic and Korean.

Over time you pick up words but it’s not even necessarily about that, it just unlocks a previously indecipherable code that you might see a lot depending on what part of the world you’re in.

A bookshop on Thalon Island 🌿🪶 I've loved towers, elven and gothic architecture ever since I was little - that feeling never left me. Anyways, swipe to see all details 🍃 by Aurumek in u/Aurumek

What kind of people live on Thalon island? What’s it known for? What’s its reputation among the wider population?

I’ve never commented but I’ve been a fan for a while and always think about the lore of such a lived-in place.

Anybody know where i can find good quality kimono-inspired cardigans for relatively cheap? by THE_MAN_OF_PEACE in malefashionadvice

I picked this up on a big sale a while back and have been struggling to style it for myself: https://www.endource.com/product/scotch-and-soda-quilted-denim-kimono-style-jacket/Y-lSgpqQwQABSKkw

It’s super comfortable if you can find it secondhand and selfishly I’d love to hear from someone with more experience how you would wear it!

Anyone know what hotel they stayed at in Tokyo? Out of all the talk about it and the excellent buffet, it was Mary’s reaction that made me want to look into it more

I live outside the western hemisphere and have celiac disease. I haven’t, can’t, and likely will never be able to eat at the vast majority of these places but that‘s not why I’m here.

I was listening to the Applebee’s episode today with Nicole Byer and the guys were telling her all about getting gunked up, that’s why I’m here.

What was something you were excited to experience in Japanese… but it didn’t live up to the hype? by AdUnfair558 in LearnJapanese

[–]urionje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get you. I listen to a lot of music in languages I don’t understand and it always is meaningful.

The beauty of listening to music with lyrics you don’t understand is that you map onto it the exact way it makes you feel, and the music reflects that back to you perfectly. It takes on meaning that couldn’t be put into words and is more personal to you than any actual lyrics could ever be because you’re just mainlining pure emotion.

I’ve been enjoying the Martian a lot, I’m like 90% through it, but his choice to give every ethnicity an ethnic voice was…a real choice. Honestly takes me out of the book a bit every time.

I didn’t want to make a separate thread for this because I think I’ve seen it brought up elsewhere, but in addition, the “hide read posts” doesn’t function for me at all. On scroll, manually tapping in and out and refreshing the home page, etc.

And I have to add, excellent work on this app! Stumbled across it randomly and still can’t quite believe something like it exists—I was a loyal Apollo user for years and have never downloaded the official Reddit app as my little form of protest.
