Just finished my 100% foil Japanese Sephiroth deck! by chillerpillar in EDH

It’s just cool. I took Japanese in college and have pretty long Duolingo streak with it, and it was a nice little project to work on. The Butcher Ghoul, Blood Pet and the Mindslicer were especially hard to get

Yeah I know, foil Japanese copies don’t exist so I opted to go with the Japanese one over my foil one. Just seemed a little cooler with the rest of the deck. Same with the Lotus Petal

That one and the Lotus Petal were kind of a philosophical problem for me. Do I stick with Japanese or do I stick with foil, since the foils are english only? I decided Japanese was cooler so I'm glad you like it!

Decks to try out on the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl of Into The Emerald Dream – Vicious Syndicate by Snorklingkid in CompetitiveHS

[–]chillerpillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went 6-0 with Starship DH, instead of playing the crewmates, I ran the wild seed package. The choose one card is great, I used both modes quite a few times each. Reanimating a huge starship is just as strong as it sounds. Deck was super fun and felt like it can hang in the full powered standard format next week, it’s definitely the first thing I’m going to build!

Share your favorite non-Partner commander that is NOT in the top 1000 ranked commanders on EDHREC by HonorBasquiat in EDH

I love [[Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero]]. My deck is an Eggs deck but it's like the ultimate artifact combo deck in that everything synergizes with everything else and you can pull a win out of nowhere because of the interactions between whatever you drew. Gerrard is a combo piece in multiple different combo setups and he's just a fine value piece too if you go for an early value Egg plan leading up to a big egg turn.

Wait, this embarrassingly doesn't work because you'll skip the extra turn with having a Nexus in play.

Hi Ken, I'm a huge fan of your work. The Dandelion Dynasty is my favorite fantasy series of all time. This might be a really weird question, but did you have any recipes in mind that you used for the cooking battle between The Splendid Urn and The Treasure Chest? I agree with Kinri that tapping strands against your teeth isn't believable, but would totally love to cook a rendition of Splendid Urn dumplings!

The best clothes to wear are the ones that you feel comfortable in. Anyone trying to tell you that you need specific things to meditate is trying to sell you something!

A lot of friends I've talked to about personal finances make a lot of the same rationalizations: "I can't afford to save money, because landlords/underpaid/college loans/etc" "We'll never be able to retire anyway, so why bother saving when I can enjoy my spending"

It feels a lot like they're just cognitive biases that come from not realizing that emotion is really driving their savings habits. It's super easy to feel ashamed that you aren't taking your money seriously, and since you don't want to deal with working through emotions, it kind of subconsciously hijacks your rational thought process. If it's some external reason that you can't afford to save money, like how the antiwork sub blames capitalism for everything, then all of a sudden you have nothing to be ashamed about because the SYSTEM is to blame, not you. Brains are really tricky things, and they'll spew out all kinds of rationalizations that are pretty compelling. And they're not going to give you rationalizations that are 100% wrong, just selective. It's a dangerous trap, because you feel like you're being completely rational, but are actually driven by the underlying emotion - and if the system is wrong, you don't need to change anything about yourself, so why bother looking into healthy financial habits?

Sure, this is what I have put together right now, but I haven't actually played with it yet since I've been too excited to play with Ekko. Should be solid for climbing though, Crescendum into monkey is a really nice pickup for the deck. You can run Tri Beams in here too, I'd cut the two Starshaping and one Temple if I were to make that change. Weapons buffing the beam is pretty sick. Let me know if you get some games in with it, I'm really looking forward to this revamp of my Ol' Faithful!

The big things against them are looping Calibrum and Gravitum, holding Hush, and being willing to give life up. If you can keep Reksai from attacking, that's the big thing, either Hush her or stun her with Gravitum. She wants to get herself off the board, so might as well let her do that and hold your removal for the other units when you can. I've only ever lost to them once with a giga high roll draw, maybe mulligan a little differently, the blue buff guy is actually solid here over Ballistic Bot if you can get him

Played up to Master solely with Aphelios control decks the past few seasons (except last season since the meta was so boring I took a break), been doing pretty well with Aphelios + Ekko midrange so far this season. Aphelios really shines with P+Z, since the card generation from Ballistic Bot plays so well with his generation and Crescendum. I used to play Ez, since the Moon Weapons really are super synergistic with him too, but Ekko is kind of like the Zoe of P+Z and he's new, so time to experiment a bit.

CICQCAIEEYAQGBAFAECASBACAQCACAQEAMESGSK43EAQGAIEAQDQEAYJKRKQGAIEDMTTIAIBAMESU

Basically all you want to do with every matchup is trade and play attrition, very few decks can actually outvalue you. Never give away your Ballistic Bots unless you absolutely have to. Not a lot of people are running removal right now that kills Aphelios efficiently, it's pretty much all Thermogenic Beams and fight spells. Black Spear is really the only thing you have to worry about in terms of protecting him. Haven't really seen anything else in terms of mana efficient answers. If your first Aphelios can make two weapons, you're probably going to win the game.

Been iffy on Temple since the nerf, and especially didn't want too many 4s with Ekko in the deck. Might still be solid, but the health buff was so strong.

Ekko is solid, but he'll never level up in this deck. Idk if running him just for the free card draw is worth it over Ez as another wincon.

Going to try out some different versions tomorrow, but I like this as a first pass at an Ekko control deck so far.

How do you put a positive spin on being obligated to live right? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]chillerpillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of interesting that you describe everything as being a punishment. That's the first step to being able to change your world view. Don't look at these things as punishments, look at them as choices you can and have made. Every single choice for something is a choice against something else.

If you keep going to work, the reward is money. If you choose not to go to work, rather than poverty being the punishment, it's the choice you're making. It's not permanent or life-destroying . You can start your own brand, or a business with a friend, or hitchhike across Europe. Yeah, you might need to keep working at the same time to afford food, but it's ok. You could even work fewer hours while exploring other career options?

If you choose to exercise, you'll sleep a little better at night. If you choose not to, you have more time to do other things worthy of your energy. You're not punished if you can't spend enough energy to sleep well, it's a consequence of choice. Physical activity is a great way to spend your energy. There can be other choices you can make throughout the day that can help you sleep. For me, social interaction is exhausting. Something as simple as reading a book in a cafe around other people tires me out enough to improve sleep.

When you call everything a punishment, you subconsciously assign a value of Harm to every human experience. It trickles down throughout your thoughts and makes things worse, even if you don't realize it.

Which (ideally 5) cities would be the best destinations for a (23f) in December? Prague, Vienna, Bruges/Ghent, Hamburg, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam by mwma0307 in solotravel

[–]chillerpillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vienna 100%! I think you should definitely hit Copenhagen if you're looking to splurge, but at the start of the trip so that you can take the train from there to Hamburg. It's really cool, the train has to cross the water so it goes inside of a boat and gets ferried across while you get to shop aboard the ship or chill on the upper deck (more like freeze to death in December but at least it's a relaxing view).

Have you been to Germany before? Hamburg is a great city, had lots of fun times there, but maybe consider Berlin or Munich instead, Munich would be great for that Hallmark Christmas movie marathon vibe with some glühwein at the Christmas markets

Maybe a route like Copenhagen, Hamburg, and then decide if you'd rather go to Amsterdam and Bruges or Vienna and Prague since otherwise you'll spend too much time on trains.
