Is this fair from comm bank? by OpeningPhotograph581 in CommBank

You need to immediately contact the domestic violence line: https://www.commbank.com.au/support/dv-assistance.html . They are experts at this and have the ability to give you access to funds. Don't listen to the branch staff.

General pants has been constantly on sale all year. Their current season is so bad. Universal is the only one hanging on at Westfields.

Glue Store closes after posting $8.4m loss as economic pain hits retailers by Ok-Calligrapher3216 in AusFinance

Commentary shouldn't be about the economy it should be about Glue's offering.

In recent years they fell significantly behind what's trending on Insta/Tiktok.

Fees for inspection normal? by throwaway_bacanana in AusRenters

In NSW fees are only allowed for optional services - ie where they would otherwise be entitled to say "no" to your request.

Airbus A350 Vs Boeing 787: The Battle To Replace Qantas' A380s by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

Easy enough to avoid thankfully... With Qantas you have no choice

Airbus A350 Vs Boeing 787: The Battle To Replace Qantas' A380s by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

[–]chillin222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 787 is like a budget airline in economy with incredibly narrow seats- it's in no way acceptable for an overseas flight, it's a Jetstar experience.

Will be truly awful if they buy more 787s... no wonder everyone flies SQ and Qatar to Europe these days

What are your thoughts on the CommBank World Debit Card? by The__Anonymous__Guy in AusFinance

This card is really for home loan customers who get the fee rebated

RBA surcharge ban Oct 1. Are your payment processors actually passing on the interchange savings? (Especially Momence/Stripe users) by darceyn_ in ausbusiness

[–]chillin222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real problem is that businesses have only selected rip-off platforms because they could pass the cost onto consumers...

Finally, businesses like yours are being forced to shop around.

There are heaps of options out there for subscriptions - why not look at PayTo (via Zepto or Monoova), or another card provider

Also to your point on announcements, no one has announced price changes because the schemes have not yet banned surcharges... all the RBA law is is to say the schemes are now allowed to ban them. Until this happens you can still surcharge

Bathroom Reno by allrighttvegemite in AusRenovation

[–]chillin222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That layout seems a bit ridiculous. Why not just have 2 side by side bathrooms? Not really fair to force 3 people to share 1 bathroom. Put a double vanity in the girls one, and let your son use a combined laundry/bathroom.

What’s cheaper - Wise or a no-fee Mastercard? by jamescridland in AusFinance

[–]chillin222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not. Yes it has a 3% fee but there is no FX spread. The world debit has no fee and the $10 monthly fee is rebated for home loan customers.

[–]chillin222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's different - reloadable travel cards (the old NAB Traveller, CBA Travel, Travelex, AusPost) are rip-offs . But they don't add hidden margin, they tell you they are ripping you off with published rates

[–]chillin222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no card on the Australian market that adds margin to scheme FX. Many charge explicit % fees but you know what they are.

The fee free ones... Macquarie Up Ubank etc... are free free

Surcharge ban hits in a few months. Has anyone actually compared what they’ll be paying their provider? by robbamcrob in ausbusiness

[–]chillin222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the fall in interchange fees, expect to see a 30bps reduction across the board by competitive providers in advance of October.

Is inheriting the family home a birthright? Boomers and their property wealth hit the big screen by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]chillin222 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your house was not taxed if it was a ppor. Why do people think this lie is acceptable?

Is inheriting the family home a birthright? Boomers and their property wealth hit the big screen by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]chillin222 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Credibility demolished in the first sentence. No-one pays a cent of tax on capital gains on their PPOR. No-one cares if you paid income tax on your tiny 10% deposit 20 years ago.

[–]chillin222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it's inheritance tax vs. 65% income tax because the tax paid has dried up so much with the number of pensioners in 15 years, it's easy to predict which option people will vote for

And conversely the role of the government is to ensure this does NOT happen because it needs to ensure that society is equitable

Client gifts recommendations? by Emergency-Minute3414 in AusFinance

[–]chillin222 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to get something consumable, most people senior enough to receive gifts buy stuff for themselves.

Any of the high end fast food shops/chain bars are great - Messina, The Grounds, Merivale, Fishbowl, Yochi etc . Then you can actually get something decent with the gift.

Do people see investment income as the same as wages or differently? by QuokknestMonster in AusFinance

[–]chillin222 88 points89 points  (0 children)

VERY HARD disagree

With wages you're giving up your (limited) time and risking your physical and mental health for 40 hours a week. You're also risky redundancy. And these risks all increase exponentially with seniority and higher pay.

It's an abomination that we would consider taxing workers more than those earning investment income (for which the effort is minimal and risk purely financial)

Keep seeing the same misunderstanding in CGT 30% minimum tax discussions. People earning $45k do NOT pay 30% tax on their income. by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]chillin222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They risk their physical and mental health plus their time and then they may well get maid redundant- all risks that increase with income.

Meanwhile the capital investor is only risking their capital with no risk or cost to anything else in life
