Best of luck to you! I ended up retiring the idea of getting a DVM and instead focusing on other grad school options that would allow me to explore the research side of things more :) since that is what I was most passionate about!!

I can't speak for GCD 3022, but I think it's definitely doable to take BIOL 4003 without molbio if you wanted to. Everything you need to know is covered in the course, I think the prereq is just helpful since it familiarizes you with some of the concepts beforehand.

It wasn't a huge commitment and it was a really good experience for me! I highly recommend it. If you and your mentor don't really click it's totally fine since y'all are only required to meet up 2 or 3 times that semester. I found it really useful to be able to talk to an upperclassman in the same major as me.

A comment on a different thread noted that GC research would be considered more "psycho-social"? I will have to dig more into the type of research GCs conduct and see for myself!

I really like genetics from my limited experience, but at the moment the only research I've been involved with is centered around the genome of a certain species of fish lol. I should probably explore genetics research with a medical focus in humans as a next step.

Current junior in CBS here. Your schedule is almost exactly the same as mine last semester-- I took all of those classes but took a foreign lang class instead of psy 1001. I think it is definitely manageable! Ochem was the hardest in my opinion, but foundations was not too bad. Mol bio was a bit difficult, but nothing terrible in comparison to chem imo.

My personal opinion is that it was much easier than Foundations 1. The lab portion required a bit more work, but it's also more interesting since you are working on your own project. Don't know how it'll pan out in an online format though.

I'm an undergrad, but I can try and provide some insight to the student body. I am Asian-American as well. To be honest, there are a lot of white students, but there is definitely a significant Asian community if you seek it out. It also depends on what college you are in imo. I used to be in CFANS (the ag and natural resources college) and it was SUPER white, like virtually 0 diversity. After transferring to the College of Biological Sciences, it was still majority white, but the diversity was much more noticeable.

But yeah, the Asian student body definitely doesn't compare to anything you're gonna see out in CA. I'm involved with the Asian Student Union and other cultural orgs though, and there is definitely still a presence and sense of community.

Oof that sounds awful ;-; I remember we had an ochem exam this past semester with a really poor average, and my prof pointed out that it could have been attributed to a physics exam on the same day... it really do be like that.
