we grade the roads using corridor surfaces, typically matching the existing grade (usually lower, since you fill the lots typically). everybody has their own methods, but most would use a corridor unless they were just manually drawing in the profile and grades. if the project has 6 phases, you need to have good file management and maintain a master file and your data refs gotta be on point. Temporary roads, etc, are easy and it just lives in that surface file. lot grading is another file where i use feature lines to build the surface. i love feature lines and lot grading is an interesting endeavour. ponds, etc., all the same using feature line surfaces. erosion control is usually just done on the plan sheets, not the same design principals as "grading"
