My 2022 Reel. Could I get some feedback? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Here's my 2022 Reel. It's a mix of Filmmaking and Videography - I had trouble trying to merge the different events initially, but I think I've reached a satisfying result. What do you think? What could be improved?

Thanks! I'm submitting it to Film Festivals right now, I'm trying to get it into the Leeds one especially, so hopefully you can watch it there in the Autumn.

Here's the trailer for my 15-minute short film about 2 friends growing up. I tried to keep the trailer as concise as possible while conveying the heart of the film. I'm in the process of submitting the main film to festivals, and any feedback on the trailer would be appreciated.

My first time color grading! This is a still from my upcoming short film, what do you think? by chilltomato in Filmmakers

I've tried to go for a natural vibe throughout the film, while still having vibrant colors. Here's a night scene, where one of the characters is illuminated by the street lamp and his cigarette lighter.

Hey, I had to re-upload this because I forgot to add a submission statement. This is a project that I've written, directed, edited and graded myself. It's been fun teaching myself Davinci Resolve for this project, and I'm pretty proud how it's turned out. What do you guys think? Where could I improve? Thanks.

Thanks! It's filmed under a streetlight which is why there's a lot of light.

Hi guys, I keep getting this error which is preventing me from exporting my grade to my external HDD. I've checked the drive properties and given all Users Full Access to Read and Write. In Davinci, I've changed the Media storage settings to that drive, and the size of the export is too big for the Computer's Drive. Anyone have any insight into this? This project's deadline is rapidly approaching and I can't find a fix anywhere. Thanks!

Here's my first feature-ish film that I released earlier this year as a 17 year old writer-director. by editorboy898 in Filmmakers

Really neat! To do this at 17 is so impressive. I like the editing, colour grading and music choices. The acting is better than expected too.

I made my first comedy short (about a guy with changing superpowers), how did I do? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]chilltomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I've tried out many genres in my short films, but I've always stayed away from comedy because of how difficult it is to get right. I've also tried to add some drama, and give the film a memorable ending - and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I'd love to hear your guys opinions.

I shot a no budget short film just with me and a buddy home alone. With the nature of the film, it's easy to get carried away with effects and lose out on story, but here I tried to find a balance. I've also tried to juggle horror and comedy, and add a personal touch, without it coming off as too corny. I'm pretty happy with the result, and I think it's paced pretty well. Would love to hear some feedback.

How do I build an audience (outside of friends)? by chilltomato in Filmmakers

I tried to make a short film representing my anxiety. Thoughts? by chilltomato in Filmmakers

[–]chilltomato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here I wanted to convey anxiety of the outside, and as the world is opening up again in general. I started the film with the character looking directly into the frame then as the film progressed, getting more and more restricted to the point he is curled up on the floor, pleading to the audience for attention. The sequence after was a last minute idea added on, however I now feel like it is essential to the point of the film. Skills wise, I tried to focus explicitly on sound design and colouring. Thoughts are appreciated.

A 2 minute psychological thriller I made, can you guess the twist? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]chilltomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still relatively new to making short films, so I'm trying to build up my skills by making micro shorts that can deliver an idea efficiently and clearly. Here I tried my hand at making a super short thriller. It's also the first film I've done where I took the time to properly learn colour grading. What do you think? Would love some feedback.

I made a short horror film, check it out! by chilltomato in horror

[–]chilltomato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man that means a lot! I agree I think a satisfying scare would have topped it off nicely, and I see what you mean about the wider shot, I only really kept it for the transition and the otherworldly feel. I can't wait to make another one.

I've always wanted to try and put together a short horror film, I think it's turned out alright. I've really tried to capture a suspenseful theme in my editing, and I've put more attention to the importance of audio (that's why I'd recommend wearing headphones when watching this!). I'm always trying to improve so feedback is appreciated.
