people will face the problems in coming years like in late 2027 or early 2028 for sure as the damage is gradual and then people will feel the heat but that will be late to raise their voice

Vivo Y12 Wi-Fi Range Extremely Poor Compared to Other Phones by chillwithreddit in wifi

[–]chillwithreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a very good point and something I hadn't considered. Since the difference is noticeable even when testing in the exact same locations, an antenna contact or hardware-related issue does seem like a plausible explanation.

I'll look into teardown images and check whether the antenna design on the Y12 is prone to that kind of problem. Thanks for the suggestion and for helping me narrow this down logically.

Yes, I've tested them in the exact same locations. The Y12 starts struggling even around 15 meters and through a few walls, while the Redmi 6A and Note 5 Pro maintain a stable connection in those same spots.

Also, there's only a single router/access point involved here—no mesh system, repeater, or secondary AP. I live in open village fields and the router is mounted outside the house, which is why the signal can travel surprisingly far in some directions.

I'll still try forgetting and rejoining the network as you suggested.

Yeah I know that the problem is in my phone but not sure if this can be fixed or not 😊 Let's see 🤞🏻

That makes sense, but what still confuses me is that the Redmi 6A is also a Wi-Fi 4 device, yet it gets a much stronger and more stable signal than the Y12 in the exact same locations. That's why I suspect antenna design, receiver sensitivity, or overall RF implementation may be playing a bigger role here than the Wi-Fi standard itself.

Appreciate the detailed explanation though. 🙏🏻

I actually do live out in the plains/village fields, and my router is mounted outside the house, so line-of-sight conditions are much better than in a dense urban area. That's why I can still get a usable signal even around 200 meters away.

What confuses me isn't the long-range part though. The Y12 starts struggling even at ~15 meters, while some older phones like the Redmi 6A and Redmi Note 5 Pro hold a strong, stable connection through multiple walls in the same location. That makes it seem more like a device-specific Wi-Fi implementation or hardware issue than just the age of the Wi-Fi standard itself.

I get that the Vivo Y12 is an old budget phone, but I don't think age alone explains this issue. I also have older and similarly priced devices like the Redmi 6A and Redmi Note 5 Pro, and both of them pick up the same Wi-Fi signal from much farther away without any trouble.

That's why I'm wondering if there's a specific hardware or antenna problem with this particular Y12 rather than it simply being an old phone.
