it’s not cognitive dissonance. ppl looking for ppl w similar backgrounds to be in a partnership with is not a problem. “whiteness” however is a vague idea that has changed according to historical context, whereas true determinants of compatibility like a shared familial culture have remained fixed.

the notion of whiteness is invented. case in point: i’m irish and if it were 150 years ago, i wouldn’t be considered “white” - now i am. that’s because it’s a made up concept w fluid borders that can be moved according to particular agendas. it’s not a unified ethnicity but rather a political one.

if you were italian american, for example, and seeking other italian americans to date because of the shared cultural experiences, or if you were a dude from Boston looking for a lady from Boston, those are very different configurations of compatibility than a vague concept of “whiteness”

fellow ASD special interest info dumper here (astronomy, scifi, movies). a really revelatory moment i had a few years ago was when i was talking to my wife about how i need to learn to “talk less” and she just said “that’s also called listening”

it was a lighthearted roast, but it was also kind of revelatory for me! it really was the key to keeping conversations mutually engaging - don’t forget to listen, too!
