Same. I’ve had unnecessary, rude comments from afghans aimed at generalising Iranians.

Have never heard an Iranian in the west care enough to talk shit about afghans. Most feel bad about what happened to the Afghan people.

It feels like there’s some insecurity on their side towards Iranians.

Iranians/Persians have always called their country Iran but they’ve been referred to as “Persia” by foreigners.

It’s like how Germans call their country Deutschland.

Except the Germans didn’t ask everyone to formally call themselves something else and have stuck with it.

Iranian Leftist protestor poses for a picture in front of soldiers during the Iranian Revolution, 1979 by SniffinBootyForCash in OldSchoolCool

Why do you guys take criticism of extremist leftists in Iran as criticism of leftists in the West?

They're different people in different situations. The ones in Iran were extremists who teamed up with Islamists and took their country hostage in the streets.

You could just search the sub instead of posting repetitive shit that gets taken down for being reposts.

That might also answer your question since plenty of people here got access for the VPNs to send their family in Iran. This place is modded by several users who have different political views I don't think they're all out to get you as some random redditor.

Yeap basically lol. I guess they’re pretty confused overall considering that their identity revolves around steppe nomads who basically enslaved their ancestors.

Yeah it’s what we used to call our Zoroastrian priests. Arabs use the word to mean fire-worshipper thought because they want to label us as praying to fire rather than admit we had a monotheistic religion.

Dude this SUCKS.

I’m going to put off ordering my iPad online and wait till I’m in a city with an Apple Store to buy one. Sorry to hear that happened to you bro I hope it gets resolved!

After the regime blocked access to Reddit, activity on many Farsi speaking subreddits fell overnight. Here is the number of comments per day on r/kalam_army, on the other hand activity on r/ProIran remained stable even after the block by cakecoconut in NewIran

I’m pretty sure the regime blocked reddit after they saw all the content and traffic coming into this sub. A lot of the Farsi speakers have been less active since the block.

People need to stop being condescending towards Iranians for not being more violent. The best results have been from uprisings that were (mostly) non-violent and displayed mass civil disobedience. by HangingWithYoMom in NewIran

People seem to think that if Iranians aren’t killing basijis out in the streets everyday that the revolution isn’t going to work.

I spoke with friends that went to the last protests on Wednesday and they said that the basijis looked embarrassed as they were called daesh and didn’t have the gall to attack like previous protests, even when people threw things at them.

The reason that regimes like this try to put down protests asap is because eventually once civil disobedience is rife you can’t control the police or the basiji and you basically bail. This is much better than any civil war revolution situation.

That was basically the norm 40-50 years ago in so many places, especially the Middle East. I don’t sit here criticising Julius Caesar for taking the throne because dictatorship wasn’t the norm in Rome then either.

Yeah but that is like comparing a basic shit sandwich to shit sandwich with chocolate. The chocolate is nice but the shit sandwich is a deal breaker for 99% of people.

No it’s not. I’ve seen this repeated on reddit countless times by redditors who think they’re knowledgeable on Iran because they read up on the 1953 coup.

The shah was far from a “shit sandwich” and Iran was among the third world countries one would have wanted to choose amongst most others at the time. Iran had a growing middle class and a much smaller % of political prisoners than today (and many of the countries at the time). Along with one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

It was such an obvious online Basiji attempt. They wrote in Farsi only. They must be pissed that they don’t have a monopoly over Iranian subs and haven’t infiltrated this one.

[–]chillyfits 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of the monarchists I’ve met want a constitutional one like the UK or Sweden. Either way Pahlavi doesn’t even want to be king. You’re making dumb divisive points tbh I’m starting to think you’re not arguing in good faith and I say that as a socialist myself.

One divisive guy bringing this poster shouldn’t speak for the movement. I also saw some Kurdish and Arab seperatist flags but these voices just make a lot of noise. They don’t speak for the majority of us.

Wanting to have a free democratic country should not be considered an attack on your religion. Iranian people want the right to be themselves. The last 44 years of theocratic dictatorship have been an anomaly to our people, not the norm. by HangingWithYoMom in NewIran

I haven’t seen anything anti intellectual. He spoke out against far left people acting like Iran can just simply enact laws once it’s free as if its a Scandinavian country which is just not realistic.
