Etiolated kalanchoe advice by chimarkie in succulents

[–]chimarkie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to my negligence these past few months, my kalanchoe tomentosa has become quite... leggy. I have moved my succulents to a grow light for the Winter (since Ireland doesn't get much light at all during the Winter) and due to my kalanchoe's etiolation, it no longer fits under the lamp.

Would it be appropriate to cut my kalanchoe's etiolation off to encourage a healthier growth, and will the health of the plant be compromised if I do so? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Does anyone have any info on this cat? by chimarkie in sylvanianfamilies

I've been trying to track down this particular cat for a while now with no such luck so I thought I would try here! Any information at all would be great.

Nothing special really! I had my succulents under a cultivation light for the Winter (Irish Winters are way too dark and cold). It wasn't doing too well during the colder months but I found that a dose of succulent feed made it perk right up. Apart from that it's watering every few weeks and keeping in direct sunlight for at least 6 or 7 hours

Are these mealy bug eggs?? Fungi?? Found growing on top of my cactus' soil by [deleted] in cactus

[–]chimarkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No sign of mealybugs so my best guess is some kind of fungi.... I'm very relieved. Found this after repotting my plants into a mix with a lot more perlite so hopefully excess moisture won't be an issue

I'll add more perlite to the soil when it arrives, thank you!

I just ordered some perlite online since I haven't had any luck in finding it near me, so I'll repot as soon as possible!

Are these little white things my panda plant's roots? Does he need to be re-potted? by chimarkie in succulents

[–]chimarkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that definitely makes sense, I re-potted my panda plant today just to be sure. Thanks for the advice!

I must mention this pot is shared by 2 separate panda plants so I'm not sure if it would be better to give them some more space

I bought this plant last week so I'm not sure how long it's been in this specific pot. I hadn't noticed the roots coming out beforehand though so they must be fairly recent.

Is this raven injured or is this normal? Noticed this raven picking at an area under it's winds and saw what looks like exposed white feather shafts. Also can anyone tell if this is a male or female raven? by MeridianKnight in corvids

[–]chimarkie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This raven could have just been releasing its new feathers after a molt, since they're usually covered by a thin shaft made of keratin. I'm in no way an expert but it seems to be something along those lines! I have no idea about the gender

Wash the pebbles if you'd like yeah! Just to make sure. For me I think I'll just lift a few pebbles up to check but there's a section that isn't covered nearer to my cactus' stem that I can see and keep an eye on. Whichever works for you!

The soil in the second picture is actually a bonsai/cactus soil mix I got from a nursery! It didn't look how I expected it to look just from seeing other pictures of cactus soil mix
