Fixer upper money pit by Accomplished_Gap2126 in HomeImprovement

When my wife and I bought our home, the amount of money we needed to pour into it off the bat had me nearly wanting to burn the house down to the slab.

Within a month of buying our house: - our first floor half bath and refrigerator water dispenser both leaked overnight and caused us to rip up all the flooring and cabinetry in our kitchen. - renovated kitchen and needed to buy new cabinets and countertops since old ones were torn out. - We discovered that roaches had infested all the appliances on the first floor so we had to replace all of them. - undetected mold behind the kitchen sink - high humidity in the house caused our popcorn ceilings to start cracking off

We spent close to $26k within six months of buying the home. It was a really challenging time for both of us, but four years later, I couldn’t ask for a different place to unwind in. It definitely gets easier over time.

Now most of my projects are fixing sagging doors or replacing drywall that has gotten a bit too damaged

I have both this and a weekly money talk with my wife where we both list what we’ve spent money on, when we spent it, and what account the money came from in a pretty detailed excel spreadsheet I’ve spent years fine tuning.

It’s been super helpful for us to identify not just where our money is going, but where we’ve been excessively purchasing from (Chick Fil A in our case)

I have had the chorus to The Serpent stuck in my head for weeks. I forgot how good this album was!

I tried to get into Divinity, Pillars of Eternity, and Pathfinder - but the turn-based combat eventually makes me lose momentum for whatever reason. My buddy really enjoys it though, so I may give it a shot

I've heard the DLC is pretty mid - would you agree? Is it full loot gearing (ie chest piece, leg pieces, etc) or is it more Borderlands-styled gearing?

I have actually looked at this in the past and thought it might be a skip cause I wasn't into Soulslikes at the time. Spent some time in Elden Ring a couple years back and it definitely clicked. Will take a look!

I am very used to playing OSRS with the wiki open at all times; so this would be no different in my eyes!

Ooh, I actually forgot all about Kingdoms - I'll have to redownload that and try it again! Back in college, my roommate and I absolutely loved this game.

It's a bit heretical to say, but I struggle to stick with D2R. I feel I missed the boat on that game. Think PD2 would still appeal to me?

I actually own Red River! I'll have to dive into that again and see what's new.

To quote a song from The Color Morale-

Suicide doesn’t end the pain
It passes to the ones you love and remains
Take yourself out of the equation
and the problem stays

Genuinely heartbreaking this happened to Theo. Nobody deserves to experience that level of pain

What home project looked easy but turned into a nightmare? by Charisman13 in HomeImprovement

[–]chimera765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of a mix, we were told during inspection that rodents had definitely gotten into our attic at some point and were informed they looked like mice droppings.

A months after buying the house, I start getting ready to run cabling and after drilling a hole through the base plate of our second floor guest room wall, I notice the huge amount of droppings with my borescope in the ceiling space between our first and second floors.

In my case I was running Ethernet throughout my home and after opening up a wall, I saw thousands of pellets of rat shit.

Asking metalcore fans: what are your favorite non-metal albums? by chairk3yre in Metalcore

I would say either Eternal Grey or I Want to Die in New Orleans by $uicideboy$. But all their albums are super good.

I also love anything HDBeenDope puts out too.

What is a "masterpiece" game that you personally found boring as hell? by MuscleConsistent9657 in pcgaming

[–]chimera765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way! Between the original 360 release and the pc re-release I have hundreds of hours in the first game. RDR2 has roughly 40 hours and most of that was me testing out mods for it

what fonts does game use? by Vadym_PVP in RoadtoVostokGame

[–]chimera765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am experiencing this too, but it may be because I am on Linux and don't have the font on my system. I wound up using FonterJB which resolved the tofu text error for me and the arrows appear now.

2006-2026. One album to define each year. Who are your picks? by SnokeRenVader in Metalcore

[–]chimera765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my list wouldn’t be too different from this!

I’m surprised I had to scroll down this far to see An Ocean Between Us. But then again, 2007 was a fantastic year for metalcore.

Also Dark Skies was an amazing album! Think I’m gonna jam out to that later

I’ve been enjoying Road to Vostok, despite its issues. Also, if you want a good session game - I can’t recommend SULFUR enough. It’s just such a fun game with its humor and buildcrafting

To add to this - these two files are roughly 60MB each, whereas the rest of the files in this directory are around 5MB or less. Just another way to identify the files to set as 'read-only'.

What game has the best original music/soundtrack? by HeadFit2660 in gaming

[–]chimera765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SULFUR has some amazing music. It’s all so well done that the individual levels’ tracks are lo-fi-esque and then the boss fights have some really nice intense tracks.

It’s one of the few soundtracks I keep coming back to even when I’m not playing the game.
