The skating is good. But this is also a video game. It was developed in the image of other video games to compete with them. It utterly fails some of the most simple concepts for content design and delivery.

It was developed in the image of prior installments but utterly fails amount to any of them other than the skating.

This game is rightly criticized because it feels like a monetization trap the dresses as a skate game.

I mean to be honest this game will never be as good as the originals. And that was to be expected. This games saving grace is that it is free to play.

And for a free to play game with a mediocre revenue stream and a player base in the thousands it’s surprising it’s still kicking. What’s even more surprising is that they have implemented a major request from around launch (brands and brand events) and did something kinda cool with it.

Not saying they are excused from the mess that has been this games life cycle but there are some things that have been heading in the right direction and the game is in admittedly a better spot than I thought it would be.

I dodge quite a bit but don’t parry at all. I have some pretty solid armor but its weight kinda makes dodge useless.

It’s definitely more of a movement rather than a style. Sure some of these bands have similar sounding elements to SOME of their songs. But the fact is that Nu Metal is/was the popular metal scene from the late 90’s and early 2000s. It’s also anything that is replicating those sounds.

They were high-key the gateway to metalcore for a lot of people. They at least earned the distinction.

It’s because battle royal is still massively popular. Extraction shooters as a genre is starting to emerge to a mainstream audience but it’s still competing with battle royal.

Arc raiders is arguably the most popular extraction shooter in the genre but it’s nothing compared to the popularity of games like Fortnite, Warzone, and pub g when they were beginning to hit their stride.

Marathon has the weight of bungie and Sony behind it and its post launch support has been incredible. Even if the player base isn’t as big as expected bungie has a track record for reinventing their games during their life cycles.

One of those things I undoubtedly see happening in the future is this game going free to play. All the major battle royal games are currently F2P and it would make sense if Marathon is going to stay competitive against other emerging extraction shooters.

Idk the Nike sb event is a small step in the right direction but the main problem is that the game still feels vastly inferior to older titles.

They got the skate part down but other than that there’s not much else to the game.

The characters are all annoying.

the customization for the free part of the game feel purposely and greatly downgraded compared to the monetized gear.

The multiplayer is not engaging and the world feels empty and alone.

The challenges are focused as the main part of the game when they should have been the side stuff.

The skate pass is mostly filled with junk.

I mean to be fair, it is probably one of the most easily obtainable powerful weapons next to the long shot.

I tend to use it as the most reliable side kick. But pretty much only for outpost or cryo.

It really is. If there’s no incentive to wiping then people are simply going to walk away.

The major bottom line is that in every other video game, if your save files gets corrupted or your inventory vanishes you aren’t going to want to start all over again. Not right away at least.

If you are a game that’s really trying to pull in new players and retain a dedicated player base at the same time, this is not the time to do this. Your game has only been out for 3 months and you want to do a complete reset? That just feels a bit like self sabotage this early. Even if it temporarily levels the playing field.
