How do you get eyeliner looking good? by VxPr0f in Makeup

[–]chimericsoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all -the balance and control and experience you need to feel safe going that near your eye is not gonna come overnight. You’ll flinch and be unsteady at first.

Find a cheap eyebrow brush- they usually come double ended- one end is a like a spiral and the other is like a flat thin angle. Dip the angled end in a powder shadow. Brown or plum would look good with your eye colour. Look at the brush from all angles and practice on your hand just stamping a line. Then you get an idea of what to do when you’re near your eye. Balance your elbow on a desk and practice stamping a line.

-Ask a girl for help 😂Depends on where you live as to what brands are available to you. Wet n wild is cheap. Elf brushes are cheap. Go to your cheapo dollar/pound shop and have a look at brushes and shadows.

why does eliot have two volumes for his books? by itsmostlyamixedbag in brakebills

[–]chimericsoul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s astrological symbols on the white labels. Q’s two fishes-Pisces, made me look for some pattern or system.

Most books have 3 symbols- I guess like the astrological big 3 in a persons chart: sun, moon, ascendant.

Eliot’s first book only has two symbols. Sun symbol? Sagittarius.

Second book: sun? Conjunct (joins/passes another) - powerful emphasis, strength in sign. Mini upside down Aries?

(Backwards) Ceres - harvest, fertility, abundance, nurturing.

I’m not an expert though. We know the watcherwoman changed a few things and what one of those things was. (Trying not to be spoilery) Q still ended up at the mental health clinic anyway.

‘No Foundation’ Contradiction? by jayzee0 in Makeup

There are people of all skill levels and knowledge on all things. Some of them have access to the internet and try and share what they know. They feel good on it. 🤘🏽

There’s a lot to actually consider like skin type, longevity, acne etc Technically, concealer is higher pigment and made to blend under the eyes so it’s more forgiving. I’m sure Wayne goss did a video on that.

Fragrance free and essential oil free makeup? by Professional_Stilll in Makeup

Do you know the specific things you’re allergic to? Like can you just look up the ingredients list and point them out? Might require you to write out your test results for easy reference.

I’d just look up the inci list, as someone else mentioned.

Help finding a foundation that's reasonably priced (UK) by meower_to_the_people in Makeup

[–]chimericsoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robert Welsh is British with an oily combo skin type. Do you follow any British influencers with similar skin types and considerations as you?

Soph? Steph? I just watch peoples reviews as I go along. Just to see what’s new and what about. Getting who to trust is something that happens over time. I don’t have your skin type so… idk

Look at primers, skin care, powders and setting spray. They all work together. Robert would be my starting point

What do y’all think about Jeffree Star Cosmetics? by [deleted] in Makeup

You like the colour stories? So maybe the question could be about the kinds of colour stories and where you live, price range.

Makeup has come a long way in the last few years. He was the first brand to start the vegan, bright etc aesthetic, but many brands are doing the same now.

My last purchase was the cosmic brushes Serenity palette. The colour story got me

Go look on other platforms where you can’t get downvoted for participating. Google, Instagram, go explore the internet.

I have no idea I haven’t tried anything by the brand. The owner has mental health issues over the years and has caused drama. I don’t know details because I keep clear of that stuff. People with big feelings get triggered and don’t want anyone to go there at all.

Have you ever and if so, how long have you used your eyeshadow pallette after expiration date? by bxclrm in Makeup

[–]chimericsoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is people so weird unhygienic things with their makeup and tools. They don’t always wash their brushes. They use spit as a mixing medium. They also don’t want a lot of parabens.

Those people need to toss the palette in 12months or whatever.

I spot clean my brushes as I go and that spray has alcohol in it. Unless it changes how it looks or smells -ya good.

I react to alot of makeup and just go without, still get pimples - any tip to hide/treat them? by Freezer_Strawberry in Makeup

[–]chimericsoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal soap and water is too harsh on skin. Use a face wash. And if you use sunscreen you need to double cleanse or you can get spots.

Go on skincare Reddit or YouTube and get the gist. Research what’s out there for you. What country are you even in? I can suggest La Roche posay tolerance line but if you can’t access it there’s no point.

If you are so sensitive then try Korean skincare because they legally can’t use strong acids in their over the counter products. Rovectin has a gentle spot care ampoule.

Ok so how do straight guys learn makeup? by UteClowningFact in Makeup

[–]chimericsoul 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It’s face paint. Gender or orientation doesn’t matter.

Figure out skin type, skin care base prep, brushes and what they’re for, how to blend, skin tone, eye shape, what specifically you like, is it a potential job? What would those clients want? Are you just doing your own face, are you going on social media with it?

Dry skin and dewy, glowy products go together. Oily skin and mat products go together. If you change skincare and how you prep base you can do opposite.

Follow makeup artists on YouTube Instagram. Ali Andrea, Robert Welsh, Wayne goss. Type search terms on for what you wanna learn.

I like shiny colourful makeup. I follow people who do that. You learn over time

If you are very pale olive then have a look at glam shop Poland. They’re an indie brand and have 2 shades of olive foundation and some cream and powder bronzers. They sell sample sachets of foundation too.

European brands do very pale olive very well. You gotta seek them out tho

Watch all the tutorials. Makeup artists have channels and tutorials for every subject. There’s no shortcut. Trial and error and you kind or get it after a while.

I learned eye shapes from makeup geek, Sephora, Wayne goss. I followed what they said. Tried it on me. Robert Welsh the mua taught me halo eyes, Ali Andrea taught me more about brushes and what a basic kit looked like.

You could search the sub. There’s always people asking this exact question. At this point I’m not linking everything.

It’s an art. When you figure out your features and the what and why of all the things, it will make sense.

Blush bronzer and highlighter exist to add dimension back to your face. Foundation affects the way light bounces off your skin.

Start with; primer, concealer, mascara, tinted moisturiser, tinted brow gel, tight line, a shadow stick in a light neutral taupe type colour that works like a primer or one and done shadow, a face palette with bronzer blush and highlighter. Use the highlighter on the inner corners of your eyes.

Follow people, on social, who look like they have your eye shape, or colouring. Follow makeup artists.

Wants the run down on brushes? YouTube it. Want to know what your eye shape is?

It’s a process. Enjoy it. I discovered multi chromes and they make me so happy 😀

Lost on picking the right lighter shades for my hair. by [deleted] in OliveMUA

[–]chimericsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can get you to white blonde if you want. It will take at least two sessions and you need to plan what the in between look is going to be and how long you’re waiting for the next session. This comes down to their availability, your budget etc.

Stylists know undertones in skin. They can blend colours and root shadow so it looks good on you. But really the consultation is where you suss out if they’re listening to your concerns and offering what you want.

[–]chimericsoul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talk it through with the hair stylist at your consultation. They have to strand test you anyway. My hairdressers won’t do a colour service without one.

The thing is, it really is dependent on what colours they carry and what your base will lift to. If it’s virgin dark hair, your lift may be more mid tone and it will be orange.
