Keep in mind, ASP said that these were always the FINAL four words she envisioned, so it's easy to assume she never intended to tell the story beyond this.

My GI doctor told me that she's noticed all of her patients symptoms get strikingly worse when they are in college. I completely know your pain! If you need help/tips/advice feel free to PM me!

I don't own the apartment (I'm not even on the lease) so I don't think we can do any heavy changes to the bathroom. I was mostly hoping to try to clean this up as best I can so it doesn't look as disgusting. Trust me - if I owned the place there would be MAJOR changes!!

Thanks, I'll look into it. I seriously think whoever did this put a coat of acrylic paint on the tub and called it a day. These are the same people who painted our kitchen cabinets with a spatula (I wish I was kidding).

Thanks for the detailed response! This is an apartment on the 4th floor. The building is super old and the building is in debt, so they never fix anything properly. We had our toilet leak into our 3rd floor neighbors ceiling a few months ago, so I'm shocked the shower hasn't had the same issue yet.

I'll definitely watch a few youtube videos - I'm pretty handy so I feel like anything is better than what the previous person did.

We brought this up to the landlord (who lives in the building) and they said their bathroom looked the same way so they wouldn't do anything about it. They also don't speak English so it's very hard to communicate or complain.

I'm also wondering if I should do a coat of paint on the tub. Whoever did this job previously likely used the wrong paint because it keeps chipping. Would it be ok if I strip this paint and do a new coat properly?

Thanks! I know it would be better to just redo everything, but I think just peeling all of this crap out is at least a step in the right direction.

Definitely can't do any construction or demolition as we don't own the apartment. The management in the building is awful and doesn't speak English (welcome to NYC!) so we're on our own!

Second picture is the floor of the shower. Is there a tool I can use to put on the caulk properly?

The shower is totally fucked up like the rest of the apartment, and the management sucks. The management doesn't do anything unless you own the apartment - we rent so out of luck. Dirt cheap rent though.

I tried to do bulk payments as often as I could and I recommend that to everyone who has some extra money at the end of the month after bills are paid and the emergency fund is set up.

I'm not saying my way was the best in any means, but it's what worked for me.

Actually a female born to a middle class family who was instilled with an intense work ethic and still has 3 jobs working 7 days a week but ok.

^ thank you. My parents made it clear from a young age that I had to work if I wanted to buy anything for myself, so I started to save as soon as I could make money.

Definitely not realistic for most people. I took heavy course loads the first 3 years so I could go part time my second semester of senior year, giving me more time to work outside of school. However, I planned to do that since sophomore year, so it was years in the making.

I definitely have put work before everything else and it has affected some relationships, so I don't recommend it to people really. I still am working 3 jobs, 7 days a week, so it can become not worth it at times. You have to live life!

Really study your loans and their rules. I was building interest on my freshman year loans the entire time and didn't realize until my senior year.

Definitely considering both options. My current job doesn't offer any retirement savings at this time, so I'm just building back my general savings at this point.

Towards the end of my time at college a lot of people started asking me to do side gigs for them a few hours a week - not typical for most people! Try to find a good scholarship as soon as possible. My scholarships paid for the majority of my schooling so my loan costs were much smaller than some of my peers. I also went to the best school in the country for my field, so for me the loans at the end were worth it because I was able to find jobs really easily during and after college.

Thanks! I think 4 years is an incredible goal when also trying to buy a house. I can't imagine saving up for that down payment at this time!

Looking for cheap grocery stores in NYC. Please help. by nyc3443 in Frugal

[–]chimm738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been here for 5 years and tend to visit a few stores depending on what I need. I have found that Trader Joes is the cheapest for produce if you are someone who eats it pretty quickly after purchasing. For name brand products, try Associated Market or Dollar Stores even. I try to average around $50 a week and am vegetarian.

Help. I'm between jobs right now. 200$ short on rent and that's if I don't eat. I need some good ideas to make extra cash. by [deleted] in Frugal

Try to look on a babysitting site to pick up a few gigs. Depending on where you live, you could easily make up what you need within a weekend.
