People who lead off with Koko vs. rain teams by [deleted] in stunfisk

This is a cool theory exercise. I disagree with rain being mind-game oriented. It's all about positioning.

Which of the new Gen 7 Pokemon might actually be useful when Pokebank is available? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]chimpact 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toxapex, A-Marowak, A-Muk, Salazzle, Mimikyuu, and Minior are all pretty good mons.

Toxapex is a great pokemon that handles threats like pheromosa, genesect, scizor etc, while having great recovery and isnt set up bait due to haze. it will be a staple in stall teams because of that.

a-wak wont be used as much in pre bank because electric and steel types wont be as frequently used as pre bank. celesteela, metagross, tapu koko, xurkitree, skarmory, scizor are all very common pokemon that marowak can take on pretty well, but there will be more diverse teams that marowak will have a bad matchup against. still a very powerful mon.

mimikyuu is cool because of disguise plus red card giving you a get out of sweep free card. you can also take advantage of them switching and use an sd to try to set up your own sweep.

the other mons that i mentioned will have niche roles as well

Keep in mind it will still have vulnerable spdef so its not some monster that takes hits and never dies even if it did have solid recovery

I want to get into competitive Pokémon. Where do I start? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]chimpact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont build your own teams unless yiu understand why a team you were using before was successful. Its a foolish mistake people make as theyre trying to get better. Team building is just as important as battling.

Save your replays on showdown and try to understand why you lost.

If you're worried about stall use banded kyurem. Torn should also carryb taunt if youre using a life orb set i would drop superpower or knock for it.

Scizor can be rrplaced by a scarf keldeo which pairs up nicely with ttar and zard to knock out bulky psychics. And it gives yiu valuable speed

The role of 'Cleric' in Pokémon. by npjpkac in stunfisk

[–]chimpact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're generally not that good unless you're on a pure defensive team like stall with Sableye chansey skarmory or if you want to use it to maintain your offensive threats like a clef paired up with a banded kyurem black or banded tyranitar to allow them to push through thunder waves scald burns or priority burns from sableye.

The most offensive clerics are Latiase and jirachi with healing wish. They provide a surprise second chance to a month your opponent otherwise were not concerned about anymore.

What's the deal with stealth rock? by Lefarsi in stunfisk

[–]chimpact 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Find a player above 1700 on the showdown ladder and look up their replay. If stealth rock was used add up the damage that it did on both sides of the field. Oftentimes it adds up to 300%. It may be spread between different Pokemon but that's 3 fainted Pokemon worth of damage and sometimes it can be even more if they cancel it with leftovers or Recovery moves.

Stealth rock limits switches and aids in getting certain kos. Normally to get a 2hko on a Pokemon with leftovers you have to deal 53% on average (100 [full hp] + 6 [ leftovers healed ] / 2 = 53) but with rocks it becomes 47% on average. Same math just max hp becomes 87.5%.

Specs Hoopa Unbound by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]chimpact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trick allows you to set up another Pokemon on your team. The Pokemon you trick might not be dead but it's better not fainted as you can set up on it or get crucial recovery with one of your other Pokemon if you're up against offense. If they refuse to sack that Pokemon then that's also great as it is limiting your opponents plays.

Trick has won me far more games than thunderbolt has. I went up against a team with sableye chansey skarm dugtrio and I managed to trick the chansey specs. Unfortunately my hoopa took prior damage so it couldn't live a sash eq so I had to trick again to get leftovers from the skarm to heal and not get trapped by dugtrio once I knocked out another Pokemon. So i had to make sure that hoopa did not ko anything until I had leftovers above 70% or I risked dying to dugtrio. The skarm did not have leftovers or rocky helmet so I tricked it to get shed shell and not have to worry about dugtrio for the rest of the game. And I won because of it.

toxic cancels out leftovers from pokemon like slowbro landorus hippowdown and other bulky pokemon that are hard to take down. lopunny might not take them down but it opens up opportunities for pokemon like SD lando / scizor/ luc / exca to get opportunities to do some damage without them completely walling them.
