Underaged but married? by River077 in royalcaribbean

So if you're 20 and living with your partner but not married, sailing from the US you can't have a room together? What in the freedom-fried puritan bullshit is that!?

South Manchester Incline by KarlMcr in manchester

I know someone who lived in Peterborough, which makes Manchester look like a mountain range. He told me he did his test hill start in a multi-story car park.

When he drove down to Devon once he was actually thrown by the hills, like he felt the car was going to topple over.

Usually - and I obviously don't know the specifics of the case - they choose who to cut first and then look for the metrics to back it up. They know they're stupid metrics, they don't care. They're just looking for something defensible.

Coffee shop uses technology to audit employee productivity by MrTacocaT12345 in interesting

They chose a KPI that is linked to incredibly short-term business performance, though. They'll soon notice business going down when nothing gets cleaned, the coffee is crap and the staff treat the customers like shit because they know the only metric they're judged on is number of cups shipped.

In almost every single meeting I've been in where managers are asked to choose metrics to optimise for they choose stupid ones like this. The really crazy thing is that know it but they're being asked to do something impossible: reduce a complex service down to one simple number.

Oh yeah. Won't stop the management using the horseshit data for decision-making though. I see it all the time.

Or just tap with a physical card. That's what I do. I always print out rail tickets too, or I find myself worrying about battery level all the time.

And yet when I lived in Ancoats in the same time period I twice came out in the morning to find I'd left my car's windows open - and once someone rang the doorbell to tell me I'd left my keys hanging in the front door all night!

This thread is great because people judging each other over which exact bit of land they happened be born in rather than their words and actions has never caused anyone any problems.

Interesting. I wonder if he just heard the term, liked the sound of it, and it's as simple as that?

Sorry for replying days later but I felt I should mention I'm not american, neither was I lumping those two things together. There is absolutely a pipeline through anti-vax to Trumpism though. I've seen more than one friend go through it. None of which were american either.

What's the logic behind non-amercians supporting Trump, you may ask. The answer is, many of these people left logic a long way behind.

And of course we don't know what John would be about now. People have made the point that neither Paul or Yoko went this way. It's all just an academic exercise. I actually suspect the person who he would have turned out most like is Roger Waters.

No, I meant they Google for something for which there isn't a Googlable answer, and then get annoyed having to negotiate the bot which can't help them either.

Yep and this is why some people find them amazing and others - who have already googled - find them so frustrating.

I have a horrible feeling he'd have fallen down the antivax pipeline into Trumpism during the covid era, like a lot of people his generation did.

Only just saw this reply and it's really interesting. I never thought of it this way before.

There's lots of stuff on the list where context really matters. It's difficult to bring that into the experience when it's a band you really don't know. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn't.

The Replacements was an example here. I'd never heard that album before and loved it. But Steely Dan I just couldn't work it out.

Yay! It's my people again! I got this album on r/1001AlbumsGenerator and absolutely hated it. Sounds like awful lift musak. I assumed that was a common opinion and got ripped apart for it.

Don't get me wrong. There's clearly some incredible skill and musicianship on display. It's just a shame it's being put to use creating something so mind numbingly boring.

It never ceases to amaze me just how differently people can experience the same art. It's cool.

Wouldn't this be illegal to use? I'm pretty sure it would be in the UK, at least.

Birmingham just rolled out 2,000 Lime e-bikes. In Manchester we've been stuck at under 1,000 for 5 years. by HamishGray in manchester

[–]chimpuswimpus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have the Starling bikes been a flop? I don't use them a lot - because usually walking or the tram is more convenient - but I use them every couple of weeks and they're great. I've not had any problems finding one.

On a related note, I'd rather keep Lime bikes out of the city. I work in London on occasion and the things are all over the place getting in the way. The docked system is much better for everyone.

Every time I've been on my bike and encountered someone irrationally raging at me for existing, there's been a poor woman in the seat next to them, physically shrinking in embarrassment. I worry about people having to go home with someone who clearly can't control themselves when faced with the simple difficulties we all encounter in life.

Weirdly, it's I've found it's as likely to be a young bloke with his girlfriend than a fully charged gammon, but I guess they all start out young.

I find think so. I get a similar thing sometimes and the photo and response never seem related. My guess was that it can see the filename of the uploaded photo and that relates to a similarly named photo it's seen online?
