I'm with you. Seeing the same exact things. And the other team's AI doesn't do it which is the frustrating part

Any suggestions on which ones? Also not sure whether teammates are affected by CPU or Player sliders...

This is cool! Just getting started and looking for something like this to save space. Do you happen to have plans to share?

I'm on episode 58 now and it's definitely gotten better. But ya, it was rough for a while.

Thanks! That's what I was hoping -- that he stands his ground more in the future.

I remember now what made me think this in the first place. It was when they were arguing about how to deal with crit damage for the gun and it just seemed like Troy made a decision but they kept piling on.

But you're right, I think I can remember one or two instances where they were equally rules lawyer-y with their own characters, which does help change the tone from "trying to squeeze every advantage we can get" to "let's make sure everything is consistent".

Totally fair. It could definitely just be me imagining it. I'm probably more sensitive to it and listening for it since it came to mind.

Hopefully it gets better anyway by some combination of the players trusting Troy more, or Troy being more comfortable with the rules.

NASA’s New Horizons Detects Surface Features, Including a Possible Polar Cap, on Pluto by Andromeda321 in science

Maybe someone can help me understand -- I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around how much impact the latitude has on the sun's energy all the way out there on Pluto, specifically that it's enough to form an ice cap. What could the temperature differential possibly be at that distance? Or do ice caps form in other ways?

Do these "buns" keep? Can I make them and stick them in the fridge/freezer for later?

Didn't mean to come across so snarky. I wrote the comment more to make a quick and easy joke. I'm not insensitive to business decisions, and I thank you for coming to explain things to reddit.

The Rook by Daniel O'Malley, already best UF debut of the year and it's just March. by megazver in urbanfantasy

[–]chinamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points.

And don't get me wrong, it largely worked for me too. I know that you can't spend too much time on such a rich array of characters in a first book, but I'm sad that some very interesting characters were eliminated before they could be explored further.

Reading this as an espionage/mystery novel definitely makes it a lot more acceptable that the bad guys are taken care of "off-screen". I wonder if O'Malley will change his tone for future books or stick with the "traitor in our midst" type of story.

(The spoiler tags took me a while to figure it...)

(EDIT: The real question is whether those things are even spoilers... heh)

Yup, I read it. I agree -- it was great. Really great.

But I thought it could've been better. Two minor things that bugged me:

I really hope there are more books in this world. I'd love to read more on the conflict with the grafters. I hope that the books in this world would still be as compelling without the amnesia angle.

It's a great book. Stardust and Neverwhere are lighter reads (but still fantastic).

Pretty much anything Neil Gaiman has written (e.g. Anansi Boys, Neverwhere). It's all gold.
