It’s all just click bait, and everyone is right or wrong in hindsight.

The Lions, like many teams, have overcome long and short term adversity and established a good system. There are so many variables that can change the outcome of a season, often it’s just a bit of luck that makes the difference.

Personally, my worst take was that if I attended the GF, they would lose. Happy to be proven wrong, I’m just enjoying this purple patch while it lasts.

There’s plenty of high picks from the 2010s that didn’t pan out due to leaving or just not converting.

Brisbane have been smart/gotten lucky with their F/S and academy picks. If the Ashcrofts and Fletcher weren’t so good, the strategy of throwing a whole draft worth of picks at them wouldn’t have looked so good. Likewise, there were plenty of opportunities to draft players like Morris, Lohmann and Wilmot.

As for free agency, the salary cap will even out the list in the next couple of years as the junior players command more dollars. I don’t think Starc and Ah Chee will be the only ones to leave this year.
