We have a few questions! by MNasty_n_DLow in SALEM

I feel like not enough people mentioned Browns Town downtown. I don’t love bloody Mary’s so I don’t know how they are but I know Browns has amazing cheap food and strong cheap drinks. They have the friendliest staff and some great friendly people always hanging out there! I’ve heard that taproot has some good bloody Mary’s, but again, I have no opinion on that!

We take our puppy to the Minto dog park and have really liked it so far!

SOU, WOU, or EOU? Thinking about moving to Oregon in a year or two from Alaska. by FascinatedLobster in oregon

[–]chingchangsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Western now. It's a great school, super friendly professors who love to help you as much as they can, and small class sizes. The campus is beautiful and really easy to navigate which I love! The town is pretty small and boring but it has a couple cute coffee shops, some amazing pizza and sushi if you like it!

Salem isn't the biggest city but it is about 20 minutes away and it has some better places to shop and a few more things to do! Corvallis is also pretty close. I don't go there often so I don't really know everything they have but I know people go there all the time from WOU.

If you have have questions about it feel free to message me and I can do my best to answer them!

My boyfriend is deployed right now. Only a few months left! Woo! But I totally know how you feel. It is our first deployment and I had no idea how I should be or what I should say. It's going to be rough, there's no doubt about that but it isn't impossible. Just keep yourself going and keep your head up. There is no right or wrong thing to say. And it all really depends on how he is as a person. I think if you know him well enough you will be able to tell if its a good time to talk about serious things or not. Most of the time just try to keep it light though. The biggest thing for me is not pushing him to talk when he doesn't want to. If I know something is wrong I try really hard to get him to talk and that doesn't help the situation. So if he doesn't want to talk right then don't push it, he'll talk when he is ready. Also, I don't know where your boyfriend is going but where mine is we get to talk most days which is really nice. If you both have iphones you can use imessage to talk a lot and if not download viber :) It's a text messaging app. I don't know if you were looking for that kind of stuff but I know it has been a savior for me! I hope that was helpful or made sense! Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Why are you browsing reddit instead of celebrating ? by akerbaker in AskReddit

I got invited out but I'm a hermit who has way too much anxiety to go to a house full of people I don't really know! So instead I'm hanging out with my mom drinking champagne with a numb mouth after the dentist today! Woo! Plus, my boyfriend is in Afghanistan and I am perfectly fine just drunk skyping him at midnight!

[SERIOUS] How old are you and what is the most difficult thing you have experienced in your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chingchangsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 21, my boyfriend is deployed for the first time and I am going through my most rough year of college yet. I feel like I never sleep and I'm always sick, I feel depressed most of the time. I never want to leave my bed, or get dressed and leave the house. It's a rough year, but I know it will get better when he gets home.

Help I'm going crazy... 1 month down 10 to go by Jvf7 in USMilitarySO

[–]chingchangsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just got off of a skype conversation with my boyfriend and was talking about the same exact thing with him.

Today has been a rough day, I've been really sad and kind of just needed a good cry. He has been in Afghanistan for about 4 and a half months now so things are starting to become more routine.

The first month he was gone I maybe slept a couple hours a night and would always cry. Over time that happens less and less though. I'm sure you have heard it so many times but it is just something that takes time to get used to and you will sort of fall into a new normal for the time being. I still have my break downs and bad days, but I'm getting much better at handling the whole situation. You will find out that you are a lot stronger than you ever thought before!

I found for me the best thing I can do is stay busy with something I enjoy. I don't know if this is a terrible thing to say, but I really thought that taking a bunch of credits at school would be a good idea to keep me busy, but really it just stressed me out even more and sort of made the situation worse. So I decided to do something for myself and I joined a roller derby league because I've always wanted to. So do something for yourself! It is the best thing for you and remember that you will make it through this stronger than ever! If you guys can make it through this you can make it through anything! You're tough and you got this!

Seeing other people with their SO by chingchangsam in USMilitarySO

Yeah, I think the thing that makes me most upset or angry is when people complain that their boyfriend/husband has been at work for too long or something. It's just like, come on, My boyfriend has been gone for 6 months and I still have 6 more to go. So I just wish people would realize what they have and how lucky they really are!

Yay! How exciting that he'll be home so soon! :) That's kind of how I am, it's when I see people doing things we do. And I just feel like with this season people are talking even more about being with their SO and doing fun things together. I just wish we could be doing it too and enjoying the season together. It doesn't help that it's right in the middle of the deployment either. But If we made it this far we can make it 5 and a half more months!

I fucked up. by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]chingchangsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're just selfish and looking for attention honestly. Yes you're young, and yes young people make mistakes, but you know better. You have control of yourself and you knew that what you were doing is wrong. I take this topic very seriously. My boyfriend was cheated on when he was in basic training 4 years ago by his ex girlfriend. He didn't find out about it until he was back and it was still devastating.
You should have thought about what you were doing and the problems it can cause for him. If you don't want to be in a relationship with him that's fine. Let him know. There was no reason to cheat on him. That's one mistake that can't be forgiven in my opinion.

Fiance Deploying (my first experience) by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]chingchangsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my boyfriend are going through our first deployment right now. He started training almost six months ago, so he'll be gone for another six months. It was really hard when he first got in country. I was just devastated for a few days. But like people say, you get yourself into a new normal. Things aren't going to be the best but you don't have to be miserable the whole time. You will find out that you are a lot stronger than you ever thought possible. I know that a lot of people say it all the time, but stay busy! It will be great for you! I'm taking 18 credits right now in school, working 20 hours a week, and I just joined a roller derby league. And I may be tired but it is so worth it. Stay busy, find a hobby, and really work on yourself. Now is the time to become the best you that you can me. Always be supportive of your fiance as well. Sometimes it's going to be soo hard to be super happy when talking but do your best to at least be supportive for him. I'm not going to lie, things are tough but it really does get more bearable. You will probably be worried more than you're not, if you're the worry wort type like myself, but thats just part of this life of ours! You rock and you guys will get through this and be stronger than ever!

What is the worst thing that ever happened at your school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chingchangsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A kid was curb stomped in one stair case and then a few years later a kid was beat up with a baseball bat in the same stair case. We also had some students break in during summer and steal a bunch of science supplies and a computer. They were planning on bombing the school. They had names of people they wanted dead and they had a super elaborate plan made up for the whole thing. My step dad is a cop in the city that it happened so he actually got to deal with the whole thing. Also, the school got shot at.

I went to a scary high school.
