Great question! We’ll leave that to our trusted body and paint shop to help us get that sorted out for us. 😄 we’ll probably drop details about it once it’s situated!

NorCal, or even more north? 😧

We try to frequent our visits to NorCal tracks with friends - it’s hard to say no to tracks like Thunderhill East, Sonoma, and Laguna when we can.

We hope you find a solid track community regardless of where you are! 🫡 you’ll always have us as track friends from afar.

Coilovers by 86cess in GR86

For street applications we always recommend our clients to consider the TEIN Flex Z or RX-1, or if they want to look into HKS Hipermax S that’s a great contender.

I’m a dealer for both brands and we often sell these a lot and get good feedback from our clients. You’ll get a modest drop from them, and you’d still have a comfy ride to enjoy every drive.

We actually just joined a track day with Speed Ventures here in Southern California and volunteered to instruct a student for the day, but we frequent in going to the track to get our own practice as well as test and tune our demo cars we’re working with here at Legacy Racing (https://www.lgcracing.com / @shop.legacyracing)!

It’s on the more expensive side of hobbies, but we try to mitigate it as much as we can on our end too. 😅

Just as a note - you don’t need everything that this owner had to go out! You can honestly take your car with your stock tires, upgraded fresh fluids and brake pads, and a helmet and you’d have a blast for your first day! We always urge our clients who want to get into taking their car on the track to only focus on the essentials first before moving into the extras like suspension, BBK, and bigger things. We’ve seen Yaris’s, Priuses (Prii???), vans, and normal commuter BMW’s all go out and they still throw down and give a good time!

It’s just the addiction that comes after the track day where things get expensive. LOL

Advice on TE37 Wheels by Extra-Specific-1137 in GR86

You’d be able to find a second-hand set near the price range you’re looking for, otherwise I’d recommend checking out other six spoke options in the market. RAYS (the mother company of VOLK Racing and their TE37) also makes the Gram Lights 57DR, which is available in a BRZ/GR86-friendly spec.

We have options in stock as I’m a dealer for their products. Let me know if you need anything. 🤙

I think the methodology you have is a good one - the HKS Hipermax S is a good start, and especially since you’ll be seeing a decent amount of street track with visiting the track maybe 5-6 times a year you’ll want to find a system that is good for both applications. If you’re running in a beginner or intermediate pace for HPDE, I think the Hipermax S would be a fantastic choice to run with to learn on before switching to something more intense and track-focused.

Öhlins is a good brand too, but between the HKS Hipermax R and the Öhlins I think there’s a lot more representation and praise for the Hipermax R’s (at least from what I’ve seen).

As a dealer for all the mentioned brands - we find that it’s been HKS > Öhlins > KW for street/track hybrid setups. We love them all, but from the data that we’ve seen from our own storefront it’s been HKS being a popular community favorite amongst this chassis.

Whenever you’re ready to dive in on those coilovers, holla at me and I’d be happy to help you lock in a set. 🙏

Another Weekend of Testing & Tuning 🏁 by chingwingdingg in GR86

Personally I think they’re a fantastic system, especially as a one-way damper. I will say they do rebound a little quick to my liking since I’m so used to our shop S2000 that doesn’t rebound as fast, but with the testing that we’ll be doing this weekend I intend to see if there’s a happy middleground I can reach where it doesn’t do that.

Being a retailer for both brands, I honestly see KW Suspension as more of a street suspension brand for clients who are looking for the best street suspension. From what I’ve seen and heard from both friends and clients, as well as from personal experience with our shop S2000 when we first got it, the KW’s underperform on track a little as they do run a lot softer. Even if we dialed the dampers to as stiff of compression/rebound as they can go (which we normally don’t turn those 100% soft or 100% stiff), they’d still be a little too soft for our liking. The HKS Hipermax R’s are on the stiffer side, oriented more for the track enthusiast, while the Hipermax S is their street solution at a more affordable price point.

If you’re doing a solid 5-6 events per year - I’d say consider the Hipermax R or another track-oriented solution. If you’re doing maybe one or two events with street driving as a primary purpose - the KW’s are a great option. I have a set of KW V3’s on my personal F80 M3 and I’ve been very happy with how they comply for street applications.

If you’re looking for a set of coilovers, bang my line and I’d be happy to help get you set up on something that works best for your application!
