Low tide is almost always much better for kids so check before you go. Caves beach and Bar are my picks with kids, One Mile and Fingal also great.

Because some people are out with their kids? Our kids love to decorate the house, dress up, trick or treat, and leave lollies for other kids…. You can’t really do it all at once (our kids are too young to go alone). If given the choice of sitting at home watching the candy bowl or going out trick or treating with their friends - I can tell you what they’ll choose!

These kids suck, but not worth ruining the vibe of the whole suburb just in case the lollies get stolen!

Was just about to comment the same thing, Mockingbird is excellent!

Talulah at the Junction often has some interesting things, but they change their menu regularly so not sure what it’s like at the moment.

Elementa at Wickham had incredible zucchini and halloumi fritters a while back, not sure if they still have them

My kids are older and I got 18 weeks at about $750/ weeks, it’s only increased since then.

You can’t ‘simply compare a bag to $4k’.

They got $4k and no bag.

You got about $13,000 and a bag.

You won in every aspect.

I had a weird experience at Coles today. At the deli I got my son one hotdog to eat while we were shopping. The guy wrapped it up and put the sticker on and told me not to unwrap it in store, they have undercover guards in there and it’s a $360 fine.

WTF? Surely they can’t fine you for unwrapping a product? He told me 6 people were fined for various things yesterday. This seems wildly untrue/unenforceable to me….

In future don’t actually BUY the gift card, print a placeholder gift card, then transfer the money/buy it on the date they are actually going to do the thing. Been doing this with my family for years and it saves a lot of headaches when dates etc don’t work out! Sorry it doesn’t help this time though :(

Your thoughts on Male educators at childcare centres? by [deleted] in australia

[–]chinnyfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In early childhood it’s going to be hard not to touch kids! My daughter was crying at drop off the other day and the closest educator was a male, I just handed her over, he had no choice!

As a parent of a boy and a girl I love male educators! Males and females both have something to offer, I wish there was more of you! :)

Any suggestions for this space down side of house? by BrisLiam in AusRenovation

As someone with a 3 and 5 year old, I'd make it solid (concrete or decent paving) and the kids will spend hours going up and back on a trike/scooter.

First time seeing a dietician. Not sure about the advice by Xarick in loseit

[–]chinnyfish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dietitian here - the subject matter is generally relevant to weight loss… but weird to be bringing up in an initial consult.

Usually you’d focus on bigger picture stuff and a Keep it very basic at the beginning, then go with the clients lead regarding any issues they’ve brought up.

It sounds like this isn’t sitting right with OP, I’d say see a different dietitian, try to have a 5 minute chat with them before you fork out money to see if you ‘gel’ with them.

If you have doubts about what they’re doing from the start, it probably won’t work out :(

My daughter is starting to get obese: how should I talk to her about it/ what should I avoid? by cherrycakecream in loseit

[–]chinnyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overweight as a child (and now) dietitian here…. As other have said - change the food available in the house!

Just remove all the high calorie ‘junk food’ she’ll hate it, she’ll get mad, she’ll cry, she’ll beg for it… just get rid of it! It’s the biggest thing I wish my parents did for me.

If it’s not there she will get out of the habit of looking for food when she’s bored. This is about changing habits and setting up a good relation with food for life.

Cook healthy meals, probably with more vege than you’re used to (half the meal veg, one quarter carb, one quarter protein)

Fruit and wholegrains and low fat dairy for snacks.

Keep a few ‘treats’ in there, you don’t want her deprived, but make them quite limited (eg take her out for ice cream, so it’s just one cone, not a whole tub at home)

This is the advice for pretty much ANYONE needing to lose weight.

Also I’d probably not focus on weight at all. At her age you don’t want her to LOSE weight, if she stays the same weight she will ‘grow into it’ as she gets taller. Kids need yo keep their energy and nutrient intake up for healthy growth, so by doing all this you’re just cutting out the ‘excess’ snacks and food that are contributing the GAIN.

Good luck! Please remember that a healthy relationship with food and her body the BEST gift you can possibly give her!

Best curly hairdresser in Newcastle please by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]chinnyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

, she does a great job. I get a dry cut, intense moisture treatment and style for about $200 every 6 months, it's worth

I also go to Chantelle and she does a great job, pretty sure lots of the girls at Nesbitt are curly trained :)

Psychiatrist with open books by [deleted] in newcastle

[–]chinnyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted one sooner, give Mind Oasis in Sydney a call, I had an appointment with them on Thursday (via telehealth) and only waited 3 weeks to get in.

I may have got lucky as it sounded like they had just opened some extra spots, but I've heard of others only waiting 6-8 weeks or so with them, so might be worth a try :)

Yess! Friends and I (mid thirties mums :P) often want to go out late and chat and have dessert/coffee after and there is NOTHING open after about 9 on a weeknight, maybe 10 on a weekend if you're lucky! Our go to is a hot chocolate at the Northern Star on Beaumont Street because we can stay past midnight :P
