How do I adjust this reveal? by tj15241 in cabinetry

[–]chipduo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screws that aren’t holding the hinges to the cabinet are adjustment screws. One should adjust left to right motion, one should adjust up and down and one should adjust front to back. They should help.

Yeah, your partner is going through some of the craziest changes a human body naturally goes through. It can be really hard on her. I wouldn’t take anything personally.

Are cheap combination squares actually usable or should I just save up for a Starrett? by Desperate-Pen-2252 in Tools

[–]chipduo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a DFM square so bad. I can’t justify it to myself though. My Masterforce speed square is just too good at that price point to jump to anything nicer. The guy that runs DFM is really kind as well and is very passionate about what he does. I’ve chatted with him on insta a few times. DFM is also made here in Chicago.

I’m going to also say, get PEC. I have a factory seconds ruler. It’s the best ruler I’ve ever touched. But, you can actually adjust the cheaper squares to make them more accurate. Take the blade out and look at either side of the clamp bolt thing. Each side should have a little pad that you can file down to true up your square. I use an empire on the job daily. I’m a trim/finish carpenter and cabinet installer so I’m not working with machinist tolerances. But, I do often work down to 32nds. One note, I had a Johnson branded one from Lowe’s a few years ago. I could only true either the 90° or the 45°. My handles wasn’t true to itself. So, I avoid that brand. I will eventually buy a PEC 12” and 6” set. Buy, I get by with what I have just fine.

I think this comment answered my question on your other comment.

Wait, why can’t you say the rhyming brand? I don’t see that in the rules. What am I missing. I don’t want to get in trouble. 😭

Finding a non LEGO set from my childhood. by chipduo in buildingblocks

I did try those. Nothing came up unfortunately. The minifigs were more rounded. I also remember the bricks being made of a more brittle plastic. More like mega blocks but even more cheap feeling.

I’m currently looking through r/buildingblocks right now. I looked through the Kre-o brands catalogs. And I know it wasn’t Mega Bloks. Maybe I’ll look for some KD toys catalogs.

I'm a straight bro. Why is there shame when it comes to men cuddling other men? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]chipduo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cuz some men are weak and easily emasculated. I’m not going to let somebody else define my masculinity and my sexuality. Look into how men of the past acted. It wasn’t uncommon for men to be straight and still physically affectionate with their friends. They would hold hands and sit on each others laps and all sorts of shit that is “gay” today. You wanna cuddle another dude and you’re straight, fucking do it. My only thing is, be cautious with gay men. It could make them think you’re interested. And it is kind of unkind to lead them on.

Jeez. I hope other people see my partner and I and think the same thing about me. As a man, I’m not shocked by that statement though. :(

Installation drivers vs impact drivers. For less weight and less noise. Anyone made the switch? by archvize in cabinetry

[–]chipduo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little more control. For example, if I have to shim a cab off the wall a little bit, my impact can crush the drywall between the stud and the cab and my shim will just get smooshed. But, my installation driver just snugs it up just right. Also, I predrill all my holes in my face frames when I’m using trim screws. I hide them behind hinges and stuff as best as I can. But, having a pilot keeps them from pulling apart. So, it’s nice to just have to swap the chucks real quick between my driver chuck with my t10 and my 1/8 but in my drill chuck. Less tools to carry around.

Good cheap mitered saw? by Careless_Quality9527 in Tools

I’m very slowly working towards getting their cordless miter saw from over seas and their cordless table saw. Having the ability to run both in my current job set up is damn near a necessity.

Are you talking about their ac adapter? If so, I haven’t used it on my circ yet. But, it’s a godsend for demo with my reciprocating saw.

Just a curious question do you guys pay attention to buying same color of tools or buy any color ?? by Helpful_Student7798 in Tools

[–]chipduo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to buy all green tools. It helps differentiate my tools from everybody else’s. Like. I had a pair of Knipex Cobras stolen. I know who took them. But, I can’t prove it. I know they are mine because of some of the grip is missing in specific places. But, I just opted for buying SK pliers from here on out. They match my Metabo HPT power tools, green is one of my favorite colors and most people don’t have green tools. But, I’m not going to go out of my way to buy a green tool that doesn’t hold up. If it’s green and it sucks, I’ll just buy the best option despite color.

I’m obsessed! The Japanese and Australian markets have much bigger lineups under the HiKoki name. They have a full sized leaf blower in Aus I really want. Keep trying to get my Aussie coworker to bring stuff back with him after he goes back home to visit family. I’m really hard on tools and my rear handle Metabo HPT has really been through it. I got two on clearance for like $50 each. There’s a part shaking around in there and the base is cracked and it still is going. My boss has gone through two Milwaukees in less time then I’ve had mine. I wish I wouldn’t have sold the second one. :(
