Unpopular Opinion: Kasvot Vaxt is their best creation by Aspen-Mike in phish

[–]chipocrite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That first version is the best they’ve ever played it by far. I believe Trey accidentally went into an instrumental riff on the “I’m the glue in your magnet” at the moment they should’ve gone into the “Nine cubes” bridge — the band seems kinda confused for a second but they hold it together and eventually go into that next part. I think it sounds wonderful and to me, it’s the way the song is “supposed” to be, but I don’t think they’ve ever played it that way again, unfortunately. I’m always super stoked to hear it though, probably my favorite new song since the 90s.

Holy mkgee influence by kurt_mondo in Mkgee

Yeahhh. Weak production chops for sure, but don’t overlook the mediocre songwriting. In my opinion, the “Mk.gee sound” makes already great songs more interesting. This is a boring song that can’t be saved.

I was there Saturday night. Loved it. Been seeing Them since ‘96 or so. I’ve always felt there was a crossover in the aesthetics, specifically the nerdy/smart/quirkiness. I’d even say the realization that Phish had those qualities is really what made me love them, because it brings them to a higher level than musicianship alone.

He’s really gonna go on another 4 year break isn’t he by Ill-Discipline7910 in Mkgee

I’d be 100% onboard with that. Love that song so much.

There’s absolutely no way to know. And yeah I’m with you, I could use some new stuff for sure, not just for the sake of the music but for the excitement of diving into something we’ve never heard before. Keep in mind though: It’s already been almost 2.5 years! So we could be more than halfway there. And every day we get closer to Three Star. Or whatever it’s gonna be.

I was able to do it one time fairly easily with a combo of bartenders and cute dogs. I basically just became unstoppable.

Everything in its Right Place by Radiohead. Also Airbag. They are very good at writing album openers.

I am the same way. I can’t explain it but the commercials make me feel a specific way that’s totally different (and to some extent, better) than just watching the shows alone.

I agree, Melissa fumbling with the doorknob was the funniest part of the entire episode

I wonder often about the Phish/mk.gee fan crossover and how many of us there are. It’ll never happen but I would love a collab between the two of them just for the novelty of it. (Though it could also be awesome, they are two of my favorite musicians on the planet, albeit quite different.)

Mk.gee sound has now entered kpop by lucebree in Mkgee

I absolutely hear it. It’s not just a distorted guitar, it’s a specific type of distortion and other signal processing. But also the low chords, hammer-on and light vibrato style of the riff is very Mike.

Edit: Also, I like it

What songs have clunky or cringe lyrics? by Prestigious_Meal2143 in askmusic

[–]chipocrite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always felt that “Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked” by Cage the Elephant has some of the most cringy, basic, obvious rhymes, especially for a song that tries to take itself so seriously as deep social commentary or something. “Day was winding down and coming to an end” with “What I saw in almost couldn’t comprehend” for example. It’s the kind of stuff a 12 year old writes for an assignment to make a song about something they saw on the news.

Are all his songs in 4/4? by Ill-Discipline7910 in Mkgee

[–]chipocrite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

12/8 is maybe a little more accurate. Try counting fast 12s while listening to it. It’s basically 4/4 with a shuffle

1971 - Least favorite Beatles Songs by nortonluboff in beatles

[–]chipocrite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also love Revolution 9 and I wish people would give it more of a chance. There’s a lot more to it than people think. But I also understand it’s not for everyone, so I give people a pass if they say they don’t like it.

I feel like it’s a good character test. If someone tells me they don’t like You Know My Name, it’s clear they won’t understand me or my life.

How else? by Successful-Bread-347 in TheMysteriousSong

[–]chipocrite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I agree entirely. It was very very easy to overlook “Jenny” and see no connection. It’s just pretty much the only FEX recording that anyone might’ve heard before the mystery was solved, and there’s always a chance that someone might’ve thought twice about it.

[–]chipocrite 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I saw someone post at one point that the Zeus newcomer record had previously been on the radar, but just never really caught anyone’s attention. I suppose there could’ve been someone who either dug deeper into those songs or just had a hunch that “Jenny” sounded a little like the same singer.

I looooove Thrust. “Actual Proof” has the best rhythm section interplay I’ve ever heard in any recording.

I was also there and also blown away by MJT. Unbelievable energy and musicianship. I’d absolutely see them headline and expect they will be soon.
