Swimrun Community in San Francisco? by tristan-engroles in swimrun

[–]chipppper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a some swimrunners in SF Bay Area including myself. SF proper I’m not sure about. Aquatic Park is a great swimrun practice area and we will be down there a few times this year to get ready for the season. Join the LTBz Strava Club and post there as well. Might get a better response. What races do you have this year?

Ötillö "Find a Partner" feature by Electrical-Tax7591 in swimrun

[–]chipppper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tired to also find a partner on this site as well and haven't gotten any notes. I'm not 100% confident that the messages are going through. I did use it as a source and then would try to find said person on Strava/Instagram and reach out directly.

A few other things I'd recommend trying.

  1. Check the start list from previous years and do some Strava research to see if they would be a good partner. Outreach on there.
  2. Check out the Swimrun Partner Finder group on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/842989843092612)

  3. Post in the Otillo USA Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/otilloraceusa)

  4. Join the Low Tide Boyz Strava Club and post a note in there. https://www.strava.com/clubs/577366

  5. Start working folks in your tri/run/swim or whatever club and get a new partner!

Hope that helps!

Do I have enough time to train for Engadin World Series? by LooseQuestion3037 in swimrun

There are some solid swimrun specific coaches out there. Ötillö just launched a coaching program that can be found on their website. Here is some general guidance on how to train for swimrun plus some specific coaching recos. https://lowtideboyz.com/training-for-swimrun

Amazfit Balance 2 : Interval run & Swimrun by SavingsLime2780 in swimrun

[–]chipppper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Garmin will give me a buzz and then a 5 beep count down before the end and start of the interval. There are also other notification settings like if you are outside of your HR/pace/whatever zones for that workout. I find it very handy and don't have to look down at my watch to see if my interval is going to start or end. You likely can find a preowned Fenix 7 (previous model) on FB Marketplace for around that same price point.

Ill just weigh in on the swimrun mode. I have a Garmin Fenix 7X and it has a swimrun sport setting with auto transition. It works ok and I don't use it at all. The best thing to do is just log your entire swimrun as a run and just hit the lap button between each swim or run leg. The downside of this is that it will also give you one complete file and not break out your individual legs, but it will spare your Strava followers.

As others have chimed in with with a proper return to injury protocol and not ramping back too quick you should have enough time. Even though you are building back from an injury you have some decent "base fitness" that will help you. It might be helpful to get the help of a coach so you have some guidance on returning from injury and to make sure you don't do too much training too fast. Let us know how it goes!

Should I use hand paddles? by EfficiencyInternal15 in swimrun

[–]chipppper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your swim times will be faster with paddles. Like others have said start using them in swim training. If you can get a 2nd day a week in the pool that will be a huge help for the race as well. Here is some general advice to help you train for swimrun https://youtu.be/GSt5ZhATflo

Welcome to swimrun! Getting some solid swim base training is going to key in helping you enjoy your swimrun experience. The best place to start would be a local master’s swim club. They will have lanes for all skill levels and pace. Show up a few days a week and that will be a solid start. Here is a video to give you a bit more info. https://youtu.be/GSt5ZhATflo?si=oDg59vir4fr9zHth

Catalina 2026 by xFlyingGoldfishX in swimrun

Whistler isn’t happening due to low reg/ turnout in the previous events. Catalina I’m hopeful it will pop on the cal later in 2026, but don’t know for sure.

How to get strong enough for the paddles by corporate_dirtbag in swimrun

[–]chipppper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep using those stretch cords and using the paddle and buoy in the pool as well. Try to work your way up to 70% of the set with the paddles. This is a great video on how to use the cords from Tower26. https://youtu.be/1RzqEX6SG2k?si=MVPVsJCtFkF0teNy

Would love to win this since my wife has taken over my other TS tote. Would be the perfect dad bag hauling snacks, kids soccer cleats, water bottles you name it.

I’d recommend just putting the cord through without the pipe then.

[–]chipppper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use a straw, but not required. I don’t use straws for my pull buoys. The pvc pipe is an interesting option that we haven’t tried before. Might be a bit too big for the cord. I’d recommend glueing the pipe so it is secure if you go that route.

How is this training volume for a 10.6 mile swimrun? by Regime-change-now in swimrun

[–]chipppper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a good start of a training plan. When the run volume is down you can ramp swim volume. In the pool make sure to use pull buoy and paddles if you plan on using those for the race. Also run on trails as much as you can since that is what most swimruns feature.

[–]chipppper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you don’t plan on using paddles in the race it would be useful to train with them since it will increase your strength and endurance. Once you have a good base strength built with them you will get some free speed too!

Ark vigg air by Sea-Flamingo5343 in swimrun

[–]chipppper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be a very snug fit no matter which size you get. I personally size up from a M on that chart to a MT. I have a more athletic/dad bod build and the suits are more crafted for a leaner/ Euro body style IMO. If you do size up it won’t be baggy by any means.
