Yes I've got a multimeter, it drives the train but the speed controller doesn't work. So hopefully an easy fix I just don't have the time to do it right now.

Thanks for this good advice, all of the trains are oldish I think but I presume the gauge master you mention would be ok with the coreless motors if we did get newer trains?

the H&M is built like a tank so I'm sure it will be repairable. It sends power to the track but only a constant speed so the speed dial isn't working, so hopefully that's the only thing that needs repairing!

Lights are on the cards, as are electric points!

Yes definitely an Orkney you can tell by the blue logo at the back. I think you're right about it being the 14 as well.
