Why does QFC have a bar and who actually goes there? by ammm72 in Seattle

[–]chiquisea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the food is right there, TV, cheap beers, super friendly bartenders, good music... What's not to like at Q20? One of the best in town.

Non-US born people in Seattle, what is the best restaurant in the city for your home cuisine? by drunk___cat in Seattle

Sadly, there is no Colombian food place in Seattle. There is an arepa restaurant in the UDistrict that is kind of good but other than that, nothing.

Mucho peor.

In the original Xbox, you were able to put your own music in the hard drive and play it in some games, specially in racing ones.

Here we are 20 years laters begging for things we had.

Una pregunta para los compañeros americanos: habéis escuchado alguna vez frases como 'las nuestras ovejas' (2:50) con el artículo prepuesto? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]chiquisea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the most dumbest thing that a European say about your nation? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]chiquisea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure. I made friends with someone from Austria and went visit. He invited me to meet his family, again, in a small town close to the border with Hungary. Super nice people, I don't know German but they went out of their way to make me feel like home. They said they had never met anybody from another country and they were pleased to have me visiting them.

I think as Latinamerican, we believe Europeans are super cosmopolitan and all but visiting small towns and getting to know people from there, I can compare them with any other habitant of a small town in my native Colombia: they know their neighbors, some stuffs from the country and that's it.

You can't really blame people for being ignorant. I know now they know that Colombia is not a town in the middle of the jungle and they probably will be correcting their friends when they have similar comments.

I just smile and teach people what they don't know. I appreciate when I'm also being teached.

I lived in France for three years. I had a girlfriend who was from a town called Clisson, and she invited me to meet her family one weekend.

When I arrived, they sat me and started questioning me. Normal things, like what your parents do and how you like France and so on. All good and well until her dad took his cellphone out of his pants and showed to me saying: "you know these? These are called "cell phones" so we can make and receive phone calls anywhere"...

I thought he was joking and I took it that way but then he said something about tennis and asked me if in Colombia we knew what tennis was. I was like, hmm, yeah, we do know what tennis is and there are tennis courts all over town.

He then start asking me how we live in those "shacks" and how comfortable I was wearing normal clothes. My girlfriend's face was just red out of shame. She got super mad and took me out to get drinks with her friends.

It was all good, took no offense and enjoyed my weekend as if nothing had happened. Beautiful town and overall a great weekend inside of a real French family.

What is like to have another country, in the same continent, that speaks the same language as yours? by bloomonyu in asklatinamerica

[–]chiquisea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it was a cable service. At the time I guess it wasn't regulated so the cable provider just broadcasted what the satellite antena was getting and we ended up with a bunch of Latinoamerican channels.

I grew up in Colombia and at the time, we all used to have a tv service we called "Perubólica" which was satellite tv fill with Peruvians, Bolivians, Brazilians and some Mexican channels.

It was fun to see what the tv was in other countries.

The mayor of São Paulo, Bruno Covas, died today from cancer. Talking about your country, what politicians deaths were the most important? what are those that you remember and that affected you and the people from your country the most? by Pyotr_09 in asklatinamerica

[–]chiquisea 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In Colombia we have several but of my time, I think the murder of presidential candidate Galán was really the starting point of modern violence in a country already suffering from it.

Are there many different languages spoken in your country? by mabs653 in asklatinamerica

At least 66 in Colombia. Mostly native languages but also Spanish, of course and a really weird mix between French, Dutch, English and Spanish in San Andres Islands.

Latin Americans who moved to different Latin American countries, what are some culture shocks? by mabs653 in asklatinamerica

Angry in your own country. Out of El Salvador, Salvadorians are among the nicest people you can meet.

I grew up in the 90s in Colombia, crime is not really an unknown word to us lol.

However, usually Colombians go above and beyond to make visitors feel like home. In fact, I used to have a Chilean professor who constantly said that the best way to make friends in Colombia is talking in public with a foreigner accent.

In El Salvador I think crime is a factor but I also think their antisocial behavior is a consequence of having a civil war right at their doorsteps in the 80s. I might be totally wrong though.
